Agreed! I cropped it and like it better. Actually, a bit more exposure too might help.

Absolutely delightful shot! So, so charming.

I'm not that good with pp to attempt the glare. But I do think a little trim off the bottom is a good idea, especially where the right side and top are closely cropped.

I have a light glare on the water pitcher from my softbox. I have Lightroom and don't know if there is a tool on there to help fade the glare so it is not distracting. I do have Elements 13 but I am not very familiar with it. Any suggestions would be very appreciated...please help! One more thing, would you crop the bottom of the photo.

Good advice. I flew to TN. in April and had my Lowepro 250 with camera equipment inside as my carry on bag.

This is a great article. I will experiment today when I set up my new lighting for taking pictures of my cats. Thanks!

Jonah, my retriever loves dressing up and hamming it up for the camera. We started out showing in obedience but I found his real talent was looking at the camera. He had great success when we showed in obedience but when the obedience show photographers took his picture with his winning ribbons we found we could "place" him in just about any position with props and he actually started smiling and really getting into it. One show photographer actually took about 80 pics of him in different positions.
We go to a very small gulf island every year with our goldens and this year Jonah's winning prize will pay for the entire 2 1/2 week trip with $$$s left over. The dogs are off leash the entire vacation and head down to the beach every morning.

A few weeks ago I was asking about a particular Nikon lens and mentioned that my kit lens made a photo that was taken by Del Monte for a special holiday packaging on a dog treat. This is the photo that was chosen out of 1000s. I think I was just lucky but I will take the money!

I still use Elements 10 on my laptop. I have Elements 13 on desktop and purchased it with the discount. Elements 13 has a whole different look than 10 so I will be looking for some tutorials for 13.

I wanted to let you know that if you are watching the Creative Live Photoshop Week, they are running a 15% off the monthly cost of Adobe Photoshop. It is $8.49 instead of the $9.99. I'm not an employ of CL or Adobe so I hope this is not stepping on any toes.

This response is not about the techniques of pet photography but rather a reference to a cocktail table book entitled DOGS, by Tim Flach. This book is a fine art book and is so exceptional that it establishes Tim Flach as the greatest dog photographer anywhere to be found. There is one picture in the book that absolutely dumbfounds me as to how it could possibly be taken. It is I think a species of hunting dog, perhaps a pointer and shot among dense vegetation. The dog is pointing and there is a pheasant just taking off from the deep brush. It is one of the most spectacular wildlife shots I have ever seen. The remainder of the book is studio photography and is truly extraordinary. I highly suggest you either take a look or purchase the book and then set your sights at his level of work. The book will give you ideas but nothing about how he achieves his images.
This response is not about the techniques of pet p... (show quote)

I went to his website and was blown away by his photos. Thanks all for responses.

I'm looking at 42nd St Photo online and see they have a great price on the Nikon D810 (body only). Has anyone purchased from this company?

I've been using two light stands (3 lights on each stand) to play with photo shoots for my dogs. I also use a reflector disc for indoor/outdoor shoots. I'm ready to move on to better lighting to get those beautiful portraits and catch lights in the eyes. I've had pretty good results but I want much better. Calling all pet photographers for advice, please. Thank you!
Below photo is outdoor with disc and setting sun for light. I need indoor help too!

Do you think that Adobe CC's smart sharpen tool will not only save camera shake blur but could possibly sharpen photos enough so we will not need to spend $$$s on those really nice lenses? BTW I see Nikon has started the rebates on lenses so I'm going shopping!

I have the holy trinity and a 105G f/2.8. I love all my lenses and I find that my go-to lens is the 70-200 f/2.8. I'm 72 and a small person and while it is a heavy lens, I cannot imagine being with out it. For landscape images it is hard to beat the 24-70 f/2.8 and 14-24 f/2.8.

I've already started looking at the 24-70 f/2.8 lens and may just get both if Nikon does indeed offer rebates!

I think we're all curious. How did you go about selling a photo for 5k? That's amazing!!

A subsidiary company of Del Monte wanted a Halloween photo of a dog to put on special holiday packaging of Pup Peroni treats. Originality, scene, marketability, and technicality was a must so I submitted my photo to them. About 6 months later the company contacted me and bought my photo! I was excited to say the least. I'm just a silly amateur but I do have an amazing dog who loves to have his picture taken.
