im not saying everything is bad in these bundles. Yes there are some useful items, however I do think most of it is crap. The disappointment in her voice about the macro lenses really bothered me.

We have one boy (22 years old now) who is an impulse buyer. I think some of these kits are geared toward those types of people. I studied and researched the kits for about two weeks before deciding on which one best fit my needs. Yes, I saw the kits with the screw in macro and tele lenses... And I am not too sure about my new Precision DSLR300 flash unit, I haven't even taken it out of the box yet. Maybe it will be good as a slave unit if they still make slide on slave triggers these days.

I don't know how many of you feel about this subject, however I feel most will agree. Many retailers do sell cameras with kit lenses which to me is fine. What I don't like is that many of them offer bundles with all sort of useless crap. We know what this stuff is but newbees don't. My daughter just purchased a new Canon camera from amazon with all kinds of add ons. I wish she had asked me first. Included in the bundle were 2 macro lenses. She called and told me they did not fit the camera. I had to tell her these indeed are not true lenses for her camera. Told her they just screw on the end of her kit lenses and they can be purchased at Amazon for $10 each.
The 52 inch tripod is crap and I certainly would not put a $700 camera on it. Just wondering what your thoughts are
Thanks John

I just purchased my Nikon D3200 with two zoom lenses and a kit that included a 32 memory card, cheap tripod, card reader, cleaning kit, extra battery and extra charger, protectors, computer cable, etc from Cameta Camera. I had a Nikon F, Nikkormat, 28mm, 50 mm, 105 mm, 55 macro (all Nikkor lenses) and a 400 crappy canon (not a Nikkor lens) in High School, plus a small dark room. I am glad I got the kit, I needed the extras for the instant ability to start my old hobby again. I was VERY pleased with the price and the basic starter accessories in the kit. I guess these kits are made for newbies, and sometimes for us older guys and gals who need to save a little money by getting items that will be replaced over time... like my wobbly new Precision tripod. This is my first digital... so much to learn... :)

How limited is your mind? The D3200 is a beginners camera and as such it should be fairly easy to understand. What you will find after you have used it a while is that it takes a lot of steps to change parameters for shooting as you become more comfortable with the camera. I had a D3000 and found that within a year I wanted some of the features of the higher end cameras. I would recommend getting the magic lantern book for the D3200 and read it as it will be easier to understand than the Nikon manual with the camera. The 18-55mm lens is good and the 55-200 is almost as good. Go take pictures. :-D :-D

My kit should be here this week. I have been watching ebay and am ready to order my first macro equipment as I can afford them and win the auctions.

Thank you for the reading suggestion! I will look into that after I read the manual completely.

My name in Norman. I have spent the last week reading all of your posts, comments and links before joining. I don't have a lot of money, but I ordered a Nikon D3200 kit with the two Nikkor zooms (18-55 and 55-200) and my next purchases will be a used pb-4 bellows and a Velbon Slider. I had a darkroom, but it looks like now I need a stacking program! My question is this, how limited will I be with my D3200? It may take me a while to upgrade to a higher quality camera body. I will be saving for a 105 macro, but that may be after Christmas. I need to learn the digital format first! Thank you for any and all responses! Norman
