Thanks, will try increasing pixels, strangely my scanner is set for 300 dpi.

File size will also depend on how much compression your jpeg/scanner is set to?

So would you say jpegs need to be about/more than 1MB to be considered as download 'worthy'. There doesn't seem to be any guidance in the help pages?

Size test: this image is 280 pixels wide by 400 pixels tall. "store original" was checked.

Good to know that images need to be above a certain size to allow downloads.

What was the 'interference' in the background? Was that an early attempt at 'manipulation'?

.... Both have that odd fogginess around the edges. These images are right out of the scanner so the oddities are not the result of any kind of smoothing. Nevertheless I think these are pleasant photos.

Were you going through the 'Vaseline' around the outside phase? It was common enough in the UK at the time, just smear some Vaseline (petroleum jelly) around the outside of a filter, and hey presto, instant mask...

This blog has quite a variety of people. Some say they are "professionals" and others are amateurs. Some say they are purebreds, while others are "artists" When someone posts an artistic technological question such as this, the vast array of posts shows how far and wide the readership is. I saw this the first day it was published, and I regalled at the post because I have done years of figure drawing, and it is always an elusive artistic endeavor because the pose makes you throw out all the "technical" jargon....

I guess that's the positive and negative of free speech.

ALL of the photos I have posted are from film of my own doing. A problem I am facing is that although I have those negatives my sanner is problematical. The images you see may indeed hae had some minor "fixes" ( largely greyscale correction ) but that is it.

No problem with the origin of your material JT, my concern was with the scanning process, as over the years programs have modified the resultant image in accordance with an algorithm to say what is right, (in their opinion).
Perhaps I'm not explaining this well? All images have a degree of manipulation to them, even our memories.
However all JTs images reflect a moment in time, and for that they should be celebrated.
JT helpfully provides a download so individuals may adjust the image for their own personal use, and they can be a good learning tool.

she is so cute, the image is nice, but, i think a little adjustment of brightness and contrast would make her expression pop.

This is a difficult area, perhaps JT has the original negative, although I guess this image is from a scan a number of years back. Processes have varied over the years, and I wonder if it's really possible to get a scan that actually, truly reflects the original negative.
In my world, these (Jim's images) remind me of happier times.

Am I reading this correctly? Is the size of the grid immaterial as long as it's consistent in size, and the important result is not a physical measurement but a ratio/percentage of the overall height? Let's face it human bodies vary enormously, there are many people I know who are taller than me but have shorter legs, etc...
