I tried daylight digiscoping with a 120mm refractor telescope and with an inexpensive ($80 used on ebay) digiscope and was not happy with the results on either. I think a sharper image can be gotten with a my kit 55-300mm zoom lens. The telescope images were just soft compared to a telephoto lens.
I have seen some great digiscope pics on flickr taken with a swarovski scope and swarovski adapter and point and shoot cameras, but that scope and adapter puts you in the same ball park cost wise as a Sigma 150-600mm sport lens. I don't know if you will get acceptable photo quality digiscoping with the Redfield, but hope you will update this post with your results if you do get it. Bear in mind, you can't capture the same bright view with a camera as you see through a scope or telescope eyepiece.

Yeah, the light gathering capabilities are the biggest issue. That's why I'm thinking 80mm is likely the smallest objective lens I can go with. 100 would be better, but that jacks the prices way up if you buy well known brand-names.
One of the chat techs at B&H suggested a Celestron with 100mm objective that is within my budget, but there were too many bad reviews for my tastes. The Redfield on the other hand had some very good reviews.
I will likely get the Redfield for it's primary duty at the range and report back here with results of any digi-scoping I do with it.
Yeah, already confirmed attachments are available for that.
Good morning from the far side. I have been researching which scope to buy for a dive into digi-scoping. I'd like to hear what scopes others are using with pros and cons. At the moment I have my sights set on the Redfield Rampage as it fits my budget. (
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?atclk=Brand_Redfield&ci=1032&N=4083534116+4031180025 ) I'll be shooting mostly with our new Canon 80D and my cell phone; then possibly with the belly-up Rebel provided we can get it repaired from the err 99 discussed in another thread.
I know considerably higher quality scopes are available but with a much larger price tag. Here I'm seeking info and opinions on those in the this price range. My plan is to make this a multi-purpose scope as it will get used for it's first intended purpose with a lot of use at the rifle range followed by digi-scoping wildlife and some star gazing; then maybe spying on the neighbors---just kidding.
thanks
Our first was a Canon Power Shot A80 purchased in 2005. It served us well for a few years then developed a problem with all of the whites appearing pink.

I understand that you are planning to upgrade even if you get your rebel fixed. Good idea. We have a camera repairman on this forum. He is in Colorado Springs. He has been in business for twenty five years. He works out of his house to keep the overhead down. I've used him a couple of times and believe that he is excellent. Here's a link
http://www.discountcamerarepair.com/almost forgot, welcome to the forum and good luck
I went to this web page and filled out his form the day after you posted this but have yet to hear back from him. Do you know if he is still in business?
WOW, you guys are awesome! Based on advice here, I just ordered an 80D (not from 42nd St) and also contacted The recommended repair place in Colorado Springs.
thanks everyone!
appreciate the warnings; that's why I threw it out there.
ah, excellent responses so far. looks like lenses interchange. what about the battery pack and remote shutter release?
also on the vari-angle view screen, we have had two point and shoot Canons with that feature and love it. Are there any problems with that for anyone?
I just looked online and it seems 42nd Street Photo has the best deals overall. Does anyone have pro/cons on dealing with them?
so, now with it being said the 80D might be a preferred choice over the 7D and 70D due to being the latest technology, how does it compare to the T6i? Is it just a tad higher level of quality as in going a step above from amateur and bordering on professional level or something else entirely?
edited: budget no more than 1000; which will get the 80D from 42nd St.
so, you prefer it over the 70D?
OH. we are buying new and of course searching for the best deals; either on just the body or a package deal if it does not include the lenses we already have.
current lenses are: 18-55, 55-250 and 28-135
Our Canon Rebel Xsi came down with the flu (err 99) last month and I have yet to correct it using all of the online tips I could find. The only thing I have not done is replace the secondary battery. So far, I have been unable to locate it either with online advice or using the manual. I do not want to start removing screws until I am sure where it is and just what to look for in general.
That said, we are ready to upgrade to a better body even if we eventually get the Rebel fixed. The two bodies I have been looking are the Rebel T6i and the 70D. The main questions I have on those two are:
1. do all of the Canon lenses interchange from what we have now? (Rebel Xsi)
2. will the Rebel remote work with either one of those
3. do either of those bodies use the same battery as the Xsi
4. do either of those have a known history of annoying problems
and the really loaded question:
5. how do the two compare for quality of pictures, ease of use, toughness, and anything else you would like to share or comment on (likes/dislikes etc).
Please no "go buy brand xxxxxxx" as we already have three Canon lenses & filter sets that I am very pleased with and do not want to start all over with another brand.
we have err 99 in our Rebel Xsi and have tried all the online tricks except removing the second battery. Our manual does not indicate where to find it. Help?
