I come here for amusement.

Some of the jokes and cartoons are funny.

Some of the photographs are interesting.

And, yes, the "stupid" is amusing, also.

Once you figure out who the idiots are, it is an interesting place.

However, I have to wonder how many others refuse to help anyone because of them.

I agree.

We placed a higher value on the lower apertures vs longer zoom based on the type of photography my husband gravitates toward. For example, we just photographed our giant schnauzer. Black dogs are notoriously difficult to photograph. The camera did a lovely job, balancing the black nose, the black eyes, the black fur. Also, I believe the lower apertures will produce nice bokah for the close-up floral photography and portraits, wily grandchildren on the run, as well as chickens.

quote=PHRubin]Interesting choice. I originally went with the DMC-ZS100 but was unhappy with the limited tele range. It has a 25-250mm (equiv) lens. The LX-10 only has a 24-72 and costs more but the lens has wider apertures. But both have the 1" sensor. There is also the DMC-ZS200 which has a 24-360mm (equiv) zoom and 1" sensor for even more $. You can compare them here:

I mention this because some vendors will accept returns for full refund allowing you to change your mind.
That is nice to hear. The Lumix has arrived and is charging. Making our way through the manual. So far, so good!

quote=stevefrankel]The LX-10 is a terrific camera. The difference between that and the Sony RX100's is that the Sony's have a popup viewfinder that useful on the beach and on ships where I take a lot of my shots. Otherwise they're probably comparable and the Lumix's menus are easier to use. It's the best choice of the cameras without an EVF!
Am I right that lenses will be needed to attach to the Mark IV (and Mark III)? That is a bridge too far. They do look like stunning models, though, with that really big sensor.

Take a look at olympus, e.g. the mark IV, https://unix.la/5yc5q.

Step back to fewer MPx to the Mark III to save$.

P.S. Most of they recommended cameras will require terribly big pockets.

I appreciate these suggestions. When I use cameradecision.com, comparing the models you are suggesting to the Lumix LX10, the LX10 holds it's own. It should be arriving today. I hope I have made a good decision. Thank you for the input.

If you not a blogger, I think the M5 at a better buy than the RX100 VA at $800. I saw it quoted at the price I noted at the B&H website, but on eBay, only open box M5's were available.

I've owned all the models of the RX100. I liked the M5 (24-70mm) better than my M7 (24-200mm) in terms of photo quality. I have a 30x40" canvas print of a boat woman in Vietnam that's absolutely stunning. I couldn't have gotten the image quality out of the VII although I sold it on eBay for $950 and it was worth every penny.

Since I like to make 16X20s and 20x30s, the sensor in the HX model I think is too small to make enlargements routinely. This is why I like the V and VI, if you can buy it new from a dealer or used from a reliable seller such as a Adorama, KEH, B&H, etc. Used, from a highly reliable seller with a 15-day return, I think a "like new" camera would sell for about $400. At this price it would be a steal.

Hello Eileen, I took a little different approach and purchased a slightly used Sony RX100 IV from one of the members here about 6 months ago that was still listed online for $900, and I believe I paid $350 for it. I've been very happy with the camera. Just a thought.

Just set up an album in Google Photos and hit the "share" link. Type in the individual e-mail addresses to share.

Will be taking pics of 4-H expo participants. Want to post them on internet so all participants can download and print their own pictures of the event. Ideally I would like to hand out a small business card to everyone that shows where the photos are stored and how they can download them at their leisure. Doing this at no charge. I tried Dropbox but seems like I would have to email each person an individual "code" which is what I want to avoid. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks

Given today's technology, I doubt that there are any "bad" $350-ish cameras out there.

My suggestion would be to do your own search, determine what is important to you and find a camera or two that meets those needs. Look a the reviews. Is there any common feature consistently mentioned as good - or bad? If you have a brick & mortar store anywhere nearby, visit them and get the camera in hand. How does it feel? Make your purchase based on how well the camera fits you and your needs.

Eileen, my camera is a Canon SX740 HS, 40 Optical zoom. Great clarity on zoom or macro. LONG battery life, easy to use and I highly recommend it. It cost $400 2 years ago and well worth the price.

Got a very little used Canon G7X for $170 a couple of weeks ago. It has a very bright lens (F1.8-2.8), 4x optical zoom, tiltable touch screen, option to use in full manual mode without digging into endless menus, as well as full auto. Nicely made all metal body and as there are 2 newer models now, they can be found for a very good price.

Let’s hope I made a good choice with the Lumix LX10. Arriving Wednesday from B+H.
From what I've seen, read + heard, I believe it will be a good choice for my husband’s photo habits. Especially looking forward to the 1.4 aperture. My irises are peak bloom.

Yes, he has the SE iPhone and I have the 11S. He gets attached to his pocket camera, though, so I think this model will be a good fit.

Thank you for your kind advice.

Hmm... Does he have a recent iPhone? It is hard to beat the quality and utility of an iPhone with a cheap point-and-shoot camera. It's a decent camera, ALWAYS with you, and can be any of about two million other things, including a phone.

That said, with a $350 budget, I'd be looking through these reviews:

I'd also be looking at used gear from KEH.com and MPB.com. Their gear comes with a six month or 180-day warranty. Both are highly reputable dealers UHH'ers use frequently.
