I recently purchased an R5 and although I have only taken 5000 shots with it, overall I am really happy with the camera. A huge upgrade over my 5D4, 7D2, etc.
I have had an issue occur 3 times that I am wondering if anyone else has seen. When I am following a bird using AF Servo mode the camera has locked up. I have a still shot in the viewfinder but no other back buttons work on the camera. When I push in the shutter release button totally in, the camera goes blank and then reboots. It comes back to the same settings I was using when it locked up. At first I thought it was a low battery, but today it occurred with a 95% charged battery.
Anyone else experienced this?

I was watching this video by professional photographer Mark Smith and the R5 locked up on him he says 5 times during shooting birds. Watch this video around the 9:12 mark he says this.

venkatesh eng and EMT88 Thank you so much for your information. That was the type of info I was hoping for. Canon has contacted me and wants me to try shooting without the battery grip, only using a single battery.
Were you using a battery grip on your camera at the time?
We will see.
At the time of my lockups, I was using a 600 mm f/4.0 ii + a 1.4 XT iii with the adapter. When I was using my 100-400 ii, have not had any problems.

Yes i was using the Canon BG-R10 battery grip at the time it locked up. Thanks and good to know the information from Canon while you contacted them. If it locks next i will try using without battery grip. I am sure Canon will fix this in the next firmware update.

Nice Regis. Did you have to crop the image or is it uncropped ?

I had my R5 / RF100-500 lockup while following a bird in AF Servo last week. I turned the camera off waited for 20 seconds or so and turned it back on, the lock up got released. Don't know if it will do it again but it is working fine now.

Cloudy skies. No sunshine.

Regis - Nice. Even from the distance 150-175 feet, and handholding the eyes of the eagle are sharp. And that even under overcast skies. Really like the sharpness of this lens. I also have the R5 / RF 100-500 and still learning the new camera. Stay safe and please keep posting. Thanks.

I can see now what all of the fuss about the R5 is about, but it takes a good photographer behind the camera to make such exquisite images. Excellent rendering of extraordinary captures. Please stay well and keep on sharing the great work.

Thank you Ourspolair.
