Thanks bigwolf! The original shots IQ are not too good, so it's kind of like putting lipstick on a pig. Not at all putting down your post processing, as I quite like it. Just being honest about the original files.

Thank you very much Rick! Like I commented to Carol, My 2x TC works really well with my EF 600mm.
The 600 and the combo both register "0" with Lens Align/Focus Tune on my 1d body. That's why I can make the images sharp.
If you notice in the second shot of the series, the eye/face is sharp while the body is OOF. Even at f8, DOF is too narrow to get the whole body in focus at 1200mm

My 600 and 2xTC seem to work together really well. I can't say the same for my 100-400mm II with 1.4x TC....I'll have to focus tune that one. The 100-400mm by itself though is spot on. I guess it's the luck of the draw and if you got a good combo, hang on to it!Jul 3, 2017 22:28:21 #

The composition is largely left as shot. I cropped out some empty space above the bird but left composition as shot. However the last shot's composition is purely based on the crop.

As I work through all the images I took on vacation, I come across some half-way decent ones of the big Blue.
These were all at 1200mm using a monopod. Canon 1dx2 with EF600 f4 L II with 2xTC.
All are cropped to some degree as 1200mm couldn't bring the subject close enough
The last one is cropped the most from 20mp down to 4mp

My first bald eagle shots (I've been trying for years). These are hand held at 1200mm with 5D Mark IV/EF600mm f4 II + 2x Teleconverter. I did my best to brace myself against a banister on the deck of our vacation house.
Heavily cropped. Not as sharp as I'd like but considering the flight shots are handheld, cropped heavily, and only at 1/1600 sec, I'm happy. Light was fading fast at dusk.
The last screen shot shows an example of the crop utilized on the original 1200mm image.
