If it was me, the price you get for your current 800 is not going to change much over the next couple of months, so I would wait until you get the newer Z800 and then field test it, I believe then you will have a better opinion as to what you want to do.

Thanks for the response! Very good point. I will do so.

We have all been in similar situations, whether for lenses, real estate, whatever. The market rules. The amount originally paid for anything is a sunk cost, irrelevant here and now. Unless you have some reason to believe (against all odds) that your old lens will appreciate in value going forward, I would say take the hit and do something more productive with the cash.

Thanks for the suggestion!

If so seldom if ever used why waste money on it?

Can you use the 5.6 lens on the Z9 with an adapter? Can you use the Z lens on the 850? Do you want 1 lens that will work for both cameras or are you only going to use the Z lens on the Z body and not ever use the D850 for shooting at great distance?

Dodie

Dear Dodie,
Thanks for the response. The 5.6 works for both bodies with adapter but the new one will not. I will rest the new one before deciding which one to keep.
Thanks!

I have Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR Lens for occasional moon and bird photographing. I also pre-ordered newly released Nikon NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S Lens. I have Nikon D850 and Nikon Z9 bodies. Now, I have dilemma about which 800mm to keep? The 800mm/5.6 is an excellent piece of glass but it is heavy and has not been used as often as I expected. The pre-ordered 800mm/6.3 PF is about half weight and I may use more often. If this is the option, I would need to sell the 800mm/5.6 at big discount, probably about half of the price paid (I checked B&H and Roberts for the prices sell to them at $8300-9000. Originally paid for over $16,000). Any suggestions? Thanks!

Just received Z9 and now I am selling my Nikon D500. The D500 has sit in the climate-controlled cabinet for quite long time since I started to use D850. It is US model. All original box and accessories. All accessories such as camera strap, charger, etc. are not used and still in the original plastic bags. The camera has been protected from day 1 with camera skin and film for screens. The camera is in excellent condition – like new in appearance. However, the shutter count is 43603. I did not realize that I clicked so many times when I checked the count for this sale. I used the camera exclusively for bird photography and continuous mode did good job to bring this high shutter count although I did not feel I used that often.
The battery grip is Nikon brand and comes with original box and all accessories. Except for the shell, all other parts have not been used. The adapter BL-5 was bought and has been used with ENEL-18 battery, which has much higher capacity than the battery comes with the camera.
Both camera and battery grip are in excellent condition. I sold my Nikon D800 early this year. See the buyer’s comment about the condition “FED-EX just delivered and Receiving brought it up to my office. Absolutely pristine condition. Showroom grade………”.
Nikon D500 + Battery grip MD-B17 + BL-5 adapter: $1050
Payment: ACH, or check (shipment will be made after the check is cleared).

Thanks!

Hi Dan,
I just received Nikon Z9. I am selling my Nikon D500. The member wanted the Nikon D500 bought one of the Z cameras while waiting my D500 for sale. If you may still be in the position to consider buying a used Nikon D500, I will send you detailed info. Otherwise, I will put up an ad up.
Thanks!

These belong to a friend of mine. To be a certified Hoosier Homestead, the farm must have been in the same family for at least 100 years.

My farm qualifies, but I have never applied to be certified.

I've been wanting a series of action shots of an osprey making a dive and coming up with a fish and yesterday was the closest I've come so far. Within minutes of arriving at the lake I saw this osprey on the hunt, stopped the car, got out, focused on the subject and just knew yesterday was going to be my lucky day. Well it wasn't because he moved on. Three close calls in two days surely my bad luck will change.

Great series, sharp images! Thanks for sharing!

Still working on the BIF. I sort of liked the snow caped mountains in the background.

I went to Monta Vista Colorado 3 times, so lots more crane photos!

These birds were all pretty far away. Heavy crop with a 600mm!

Open to thoughts and suggestions!

Great set! Thanks for sharing!
