Topping Off
Here’s a few highlight shots from the un-posted Topping Off activity of the 30 story building I had followed since ground breaking. It was a cold overcast day in March, and the warm concrete (delivered in “buckets” or pumped from the trucks on the ground) had to be poured within a short time-window. This is a hard, dangerous activity repeated on schedule throughout vertical construction process.
Note: The previous post (out of sequence-Art of Construction XVII) showed the Iron Workers engaged in the Tower Crane Removal which follow this Topping Off activity....
IMHO: It's always a privilege to be “on-site” during construction of high-rise buildings, recording these powerful images. It's one of my favorite photo subjects. I’ve seen and shot a lot, changed my photo style, learned a little about construction, met interesting Crews and Journeymen, and made some good acquaintance along the way. This was my 15th building (over 10 years) photographed from ground breaking to topping off....show in my previous post. Thanks for looking

I spent the afternoon with one of my granddaughters (Carley). We went out for dinner, did a little shopping, went to DQ for a blizzard. Then a couple quick photos when we got home. Canon 5DIII with a Canon 24-105 f/4 lens. The main light was a Godox AD360, the hair light and the background light were Godox V850’s. ISO-100, aperture f/8 and shutter speed 1/160.

You have a beautiful granddaughter and took some lovely photos! I prefer the third one, where she shows off a great smile and looks much more comfortable than in the more obviously posed positions.

So long as the photographer/artist reveals what was done to achieve the results, I think it's fine. Competitions should just update their entry rules to accommodate or restrict entries according to the preferences of the sponsoring body.

I completely agree!

Great shot, Voss. I love it. Reminds me of a Norman Rockwell painting. The policeman trying to talk to this guy while he leisurely finishes his beer. And the dog looking on, wondering what’s up. By the way, color. No doubt.

Nice capture, Voss. I think the color version provides the appropriate atmosphere for this photo. To me, the b and w looks a bit flat.

Thanks, Steve. How's this?

Thanks for posting the color version, Voss! I really like it. (No surprise there). I just think it looks much more alive. Just my opinion.

Nice capture! I think you know I generally prefer color. With all the posters and this guy’s shirt, I would like to see the color version.
