Do you have a collection of lenses from your film cameras? Some of them may be compatible with some DSLRs.

Tons of good advice here; one more thing to keep in mind is that most of us love to share. If you are having trouble getting the shot you want and there are other people around with cameras comparable to yours, ask for help. You might even find you are talking to another hogger. And welcome to the forum.

I already posted one of my oldest shots, the one I use as my avatar, but after seeing other people's photos and reading the comments I now have to say my favorite is the next one. The next picture I take that tells me I have added a bit to my skills, that gives me that feeling that I caught something special, that makes me want to share it with all of you, will be my best picture to date. Thank you, Fellow Hoggers, for being both inspiration and audience.

I think every "favorite picture" has a backstory in addition to whatever photographic merits it has. This is one I took in Scotland for a favorite teacher of mine who said she had never been able to get a shot of "Alloway's Auld Haunted Kirk" because the weather had never cooperated. For me, the sun broke through the clouds just before setting and gave me this golden hour illumination. I was a young man at the time (1971) and climbed atop a six foot stone wall to get the shot, another reason Miss Louden couldn't get the shot she wanted. Giving her the print and slide was one of the most rewarding photographic experiences I have had.

LOL...yes it does! Kinda humorous I think, and if I had the skills I'd surely remove it! Want to give it a try? Go ahead & repost here if you want. Walt
Just a quick edit with Photoscape; this could be cleaned up a lot more.

Well, I think Sigma makes the biggest and baddest "walkaround" lens 200-500 f/2.8 35 lbs (no that's not the price in UK pounds).... only $26K but if you price it in bitcoins it's low cost :)))) How do you even work with such a lens! At least it has a carry handle :)))))

At least it has "free shipping."

Unless you are trying to make photography a source of income the three rules are:
1. Have fun.
2. Have fun.
3. Have fun.

If you are having fun (and not interfering with other people's fun) you are doing it right. Hopefully part of the having fun will be trying to improve, but if snapshots make you happy take snapshots. And pictures of cats.

I took almost the same image, and gave Registax about one hundred shots to work with. I didn't getanything like this much color but about the same detail. I posted the picture I ended up with in general photography under the title "Stacking the moon" if you want to take a look at it.

I don't know how the processing time compares; it really wasn't that long. Can you tell me what I'm doing when I sharpen layer 1, layer 2, layer 3, etc? I feel like I'm just pushing buttons at random.

Wow, great detail and no graininess at all! Wonderful shot. I've never stacked more than about 20 pictures myself, stacking 100 must have taken a while to process. Good job!

This is my first reasonably successful attempt at using Registax.

It took a while to figure out, but I did get Registax to work. I took a series of about a hundred shots using a Tamron 70 - 300 zoomed out and a 2x teleconverter. After stacking this is what I got.

I've been trying Registax, but with no success. I've been working with a series of eight JPGs of the moon and the program keeps freezing up; after I hit "align" it gets to about 12% and just stops. I can't even exit; I have to use task manager to close the program. Any thoughts anyone?
