Hi Bill.Sounds like we had similar experiences (mine was at the level crossing in Oceanside by E. Rockaway).
Moved to Middletown DE recently and had to wait 10 min for a freight train to go by Rt 71. Must have been 100 cars long or the same length of the number of drivers waiting for to go by
I have to admit my OCD and trains makes for an interesting combination. I also like looking at the graffiti that adorns most, if not all the cars

Nj has been a good run for us. 30 yrs in Bergen County, raised our kids here and you can't beat NJ pizza. However the NJ I knew is no longer the NJ I see today. Going into NYC mimics the national debt of a small country, crime is getting out of control even in "better" areas and, yes, the cost basis has grown exponentially.
We're just crossing the bridge into Delaware which is shown itself to be a more 55+ friendly place to live. NO sales tax, property taxes are 1/4 of what I pay now for a bigger home, and frankly the services we have in our town rival and often are better than I presently have.
Granted, it is a personal decision, but we are truly looking forward to our move and many of friends are looking to do the same.

For anyone who lives outside the pick-up area (i.e NY-NJ), I can look into shipping $, I would probably use UPS or Fedex as they also do packing and can provide insurance.

Moving and want my enlarger to go to a good home. Has a halogen head and I'm including an Omega color analyzer, tank roller and anything else someone doesn't buy at our garage sale this weekend.

It could very well be skin oils from years ago that are degrading the negative. I'm not aware of much you can do without causing further damage.
