Thank you for responding to me. I don't have topaz, as do so many on UHH; maybe I should look into it.

Love the shot. So, I have a question, because my efforts at similar landscapes fall well short of this. How do you get so much detail and color accuracy in the farther reaches of the landscape.. Your capture of both the mountain ranges just below the horizon are the aspects of the scene wherein I fall short. Are you using filters or are you making corrections in pp? I don't even know where to start.

I have been away for a few days taking care of some family business in Arkansas. I did take a little time to do some photography though the weather was mostly cloudy and drizzly and the Fall colors are not at peak. I tried to get a few worth keeping. Please view the downloads.

Frankly, I find these photos difficult; however, I did learn something from them. In the first, you have captured well the tree lines and the lines of hills well. Mine don't turn out this nicely. I think the reason yours did in this photo is that the slight reflection of ware through the trees on the left started my visual movement around the composition. It was enough to give the river a direction and and a sense of destination. I also think that the dark water patches that parallel the horizon nicely create a series of parallel lines with the hills in the background. That element of the composition works for me.
The second shot as a learning device is more difficult. I was initially drawn to the tree line across the mid-section of the image. What really struck me though, as I scanned the image was were the dead tress. These created a subtle differentiation( not quite a contrast) in the trees which kept the whole mass of foliage from just disintegrating into the blah.
I hope you do not find my remarks disrespectful, inaccurate or inappropriate, but I really was engaged by all four shots. As I said, I have tried to take similar shots - and with the dull lighting that you were faced with - and felt dissatisfied with them. Yours have given me some nice insights. I tried to codify them in my remarks in order to assist me to take better photographs by learning to see what I might otherwise overlook.

It's funny, but I've always thought Oklahoma to be rather flat, not like what you've pictured. I'd love to go hiking along those trails!

Oklahoma is largely rolling hills. Some are pretty rough when the bedrock comes through the soil. Much of the state is open, but state highways present a really different landscape than what you often see driving the updated interstate version of old US 66.

More from Oklahoma. The first are from the Tulsa Botanical garden. It is 8 miles from downtown. Others are from Red Bud Nature preserve, which would be about 20 miles from downtown, but it is really under ten miles from inhabited Tulsa.

[quote=SueScott]Hi all! I know that everyone has tons of great holiday shots from exotic locations, but what about the ordinary, local scenes, say, within about 15 miles from h

These are a few of Tulsa, Ok. I love this city, its wide, cultural heritage, and its beauty.

Next month I have an excursion planned to Montreal and Quebec City. I understand that in the U.S, a shot taken on the street or from the street is largely legal. i.e. no expectation of privacy. So, what is the case in Canada? Are there concerns which I must respect there beyond basic respect and courtesy that I need to be aware Of? And thank you for help in this matter.

I had never seen these but have heard of them. These are plaques, I'm sure were sponsored, put in sidewalks where Jews were taken from their homes in World War II and sent off to concentration camps. Just have to look closely when you're walking around. I found these while shopping with the wife in Kaiserslautern, Germany today. Just a grim reminder of man's inhumanity to man, one family wiped out strictly because of their religion...nuggets of history throughout the world...too bad we're erasing ours....taken with my second rate cell phone camera.

These are interesting, and I did not know that these plaques existed. I had a similar experience here in Tulsa though. One day while walking I came across some sidewalk plaques. Examining them I found them to be the names of businesses or persons whose place at the that spot had been burned during the 1921 Tulsa race riot, My experience was very moving as I am sure that yours was. Reminders can be stark and sobering. Thanks for sharing.

What you see barely scratches the surface. It is 65 acres presently and will be 100.
