Just got back from a great trip in Alaska with my wife. We went to Seward where I lived in the 70's working on the Air Force Boats in Seward! Yes the Air Force has boats! These are some from along the way!

Beautiful shots

New to DSLR's, I have a D3100 w/70-300 Nikkor, a 18-55mm Nikkor, a 35mm Nikkor. Am thinking of a second camera. I can buy another D3100 or a D90 for about the same price, which would be the better choice.

I use my D3100 and really enjoy it. My advice is stick with it until it starts to give problems

Greetings folks, I've watched this site for about a year (my fellow photographer friend recommended), decided to join in. I live in way northern New York along Lake Champlain. Got my first no-name 35mm about 65 years ago when I was 8. Then my father's Rolleiflex and Kodak Retina IIa. A Ricoh and Voightlander. I still have 3 Minolta SLR 35mm bodies with a variety of lenses. Been thinking about trying film again. I got into digital about 10 years ago with a Casio Exilim 2mp (cute, wish I still had it). Then a Canon Powershot A630 with flip screen; another Canon Digital Elph; and recently a Nikon D3200 DSLR, still learning that one. I guess I like my toys ;-) I use Adobe Photoshop for digital editing.

I like to shoot flowers, dogs, junk, scenics, people, whatever looks interesting. Here's a few from my neighborhood:

In another post the idea of perspective correction came up. That's why I like this forum - it makes me think and re-evaluate my methods and, well, perspective.

These are two shots taken off of a tripod with remote shutter release while passing through Dubai last week. Initially I didn't correct the perspective as I enjoy the perceived drama it adds and a sense of focusing attention to the center of the shot. After correcting the perspective the shot seems a little more boring to me.

I'm interested in what others think and how they view the subject of PP perspective correction.

Certainly I agree without Pp is more interesting than with.

First..thanks to everyone who helped me figure out how to attach these pictures. At least I hope they're attached. I received my camera Friday and went out Saturday and took a few pictures. These were taken in aperture priority. Not much thought given to composition..just wanted make something happen! I know I have a lot to learn but the technology packed into this really small package is truly amazing. Critiques are MOST welcome. Thanks.
Gene

Very nice pics.
I just know you are going to enjoy your new "toy"

I'm turning to fellow hogs to see if anyone can help me out. I'm using a MacBook pro and am looking for some software that I can use to turn pics into a slideshow. I also want to be able to add as many music tracks to the slide show as I want (most only allow for 1 or 2 songs to be added). I would like to be able to fade a song out even if there's time left on it and start another song. I would like the program to initially apply random transitions between the pics but I wanna also be able to change those transitions to whatever I would like. Most of the software that I have found defaults to 3 seconds of the pic being shown and then the transition starts. They all allow you to change the duration but you have to change the duration individually (can be a pain if you have 135 - 150 pics in the slide show). I know I'm asking for a lot but in windows movie maker you can do everything that I'm looking for and more but I bought my mac so I could use it. Idvd is longer available, IMovie does not allow you to add music nor does IPhoto. To finish it all off I would like to burn the slide show to DVD that I can play on my mac, a pc, a tv, xbox, etc.

I learned Windows on Win 3.1, Win 5, Millenium, XP and Win 7.

I taught many people how to use Windows up to XP.

I have had my Win 7 machine for 2 years and am still leaning new tricks.

Win 8 - is a complete and total mystery to me. The search facility has to be brought out of hiding, the Switch off buttons are hidden. The user profiles are hidden. Everything is In Hiding. If I happen to find what I am looking for, it seems to disappear and I have to search all over again. the screen will for no apparent reason split itself into two. Just as I got used to large "apps" showing on the opening screen, they changed into (fewer) small apps.

As soon as I can, (when my wife lets me) I am going to partition the disc and install Win 7 (if I can find out how).

Win 8 is an abortive attempt to make screens look like Ipad screens.

I know some like Win 8, but I know a lot more who wish they had never come across such a pathetic interface.

I had always heard that you can’t shoot a picture of a sand storm once you’re inside of it so when I had the opportunity I just had to give it a try. The wind is blowing in excess of 50 mph as you can see from the tent fabric being pushed into the support structure. Visibility is 300 meters. This shot was taken with a 10mm fisheye and I think the distortion just adds to the surreal nature of the moment.

These are two slightly different shots with one PP to B&W. I think the shot was best portrayed in B&W primarily because the lighting and colors inside are so completely off. The sun going through all of that sand just gives strange colors and it’s hard to find a good baseline to work from.

Sigma 10mm fisheye
Shutter speed 1/1000

Hi everyone , my name is Anthony and have always been interested in photography but until now couldnt afford to start it. With the support of my wife and my ass off as a customer service assistant the last 2 years i got a big promotion and that means one thing i can finally get into what i love the most (apart from my wife that is) photography. I have started with a nice small camera EOS 700D to learn on before i start working my way up the ladder to big and better cameras with the EOS 5D MARK III my next aim after christmas. If anyone has any suggestions to help on what type of lens to buy for different settings or books to read that will improve my thinking i would really appreciate it.

thanks for new

happy shooting
