Even if the focal lengths are similar, the 28-300 and the 70-200 2.8 are not comparable.

Basically you're correct, but my point was there are multiple factors to look at, focal length among others, and the op my want to verify that the lens will actually fit his needs before spending $XXXX.XX on a lens that may or may not do the jobs he thinks it will.

I purchased a battery pac for my humble Canon t3i. After a day of shooting the camera indicated low battery charge. However, when I charged the batteries one of them was indeed drained but the other of the two pac system still most of the juice or charge undrained. Little green light on charger came on within a minute or two. Begs the question....am I getting the expected benefit from the battery pack or am I simply running on one battery the whole time with a possible defective battery pac?

While all the advise you have received is good, I think this all boils down to - you have a bad battery pack, and it's the one that won't hold a charge. Battery packs themselves are typically comprised of individual cells in the pack. If one of those cells shorts out, it will drain the rest of the cells in the pack, and sometimes any other packs loaded in the same device.

I think Peterff is pretty much on the mark. If it were me, I would get another battery pack, replace the one that doesn't hold a charge, and it will probably work as expected.

I am looking to add a new Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 to the kit. Currently this range is covered by my nikon 28-300mm. Would the addition be worthwhile? I hear it's an excellent lense, but wondered if those with both in their kit may have advice. May also go for a 28-70mm f2.8 as a pair of lenses to cover the general range.
Thanks for any advice.

What you haven't stated is exactly what style of photography you practice. You already have a 28-300 which covers a respectable wide-angle to tight-in zoom range. The 70-200 you're looking at is already completely covered by the 28-300 as far as focal length. I shoot landscapes and would find that lens combo an enormously huge pain-in-the-neck because I would constantly be switching from one to the other to get from wide-angle to mid-zoom to tight zoom.

However, your shooting style may be quite different. What I would suggest is that you go back over the photos you have taken over the past several weeks or months that either appeal most to you, or have been your biggest sales. Check the EXIF data of those images to see if the brunt of those images fall within the 70-200 focal length you are looking at. IF you find that most of your best images fall within that focal length, AND you feel you need the increased aperture, THEN then 70-200 may well become a valuable addition to your arsenal. IF you find the above is NOT true, you may want to rethink your strategy.

I'm not a big fan of ANYTHING Apple. Having said that, it's pretty easy to ding any laptop on battery life. Having used laptops as my primary computer for the last 20 years I've come to look at the battery as nice when it's working, but don't depend on it in a crunch.

Has anyone tried this software? Comments please.
I currently use lightroom and Photoshop cc.

I'm just curious, and it could make a difference on how your question is answered: Are you asking because you want to ADD On1 to your PP workflow or are you looking to replace Photoshop/Lightroom with On1?

I have the D5200 and have really enjoyed it. Read the manual on it, but as others have said pick up a book such as 'D5200 for Dummies'. The manual will tell you what the controls do but other books will give you better insights on how best to utilize the controls.

You mentioned it came with a kit, but not what the kit was. That camera typically comes with an 18-55 lens, but has also come with the 18-140. I would recommend the 18-140 if you don't have it. Good lens for the price and much more versatile than the 18-55.

where I can try out loading an image or two without embarrassing myself with the process? Note that I'm not all that concerned about image comments at this point regarding the image(s) but rather, I typically tend to stay in the background most of the time and just peep at other's writings and admire the images. While I have oodles of images, I rarely post them simply because I'm not a fast learner and it usually takes me a few tries before I can get it right.
Advise please?
Thanks,

Steve, the Gallery is a great place to start if you want to post pictures and see how your images compare to others in the same subject area (Landscape, Nature, Portraits, Cityscape, etc.). If you do not specifically ask for critique in the Gallery, most of the responses are pretty generic; if you do ask for critique you will often get some more detailed responses in addition to the generic ones.

Another place to post you might consider is the 'For Your Consideration' section. You can expect members who view your images in that section to point out what they like about an image and what they individually might change or improve on. A good place to get suggestions on cropping, content, post processing options and even how different camera settings may have helped improve the image.

Keep in mind that any time you ask a group of people to give their individual opinions on a topic or object, you are going to get some responses that may seem overly harsh to you. In most cases, the author of the response is not necessarily trying to be mean or rude, but is expressing his/her self as best they know how on a written forum such as this.

Nicely done, Plymouth. I'm a big fan of Panos, especially if I can catch the subject like you did. Just to ask, what did you use for your stitching software?
