Man, I absolutely love it when a guy does a DIY solution to a need. For some there's always the 'cubic$$' easy way out, but you've done great. Does the multi-speed gearbox mean you can vary the speed of horizontal movement?

Oh, your attached example really clarified what the machine does. Nice!

Maybe, that's what I get for "winging"it". I thought it turned on the focus when you brought up the camera to your eye. You've got the book in your hand...I'm still winging it. :)

I WISH I had the book in hand. The ebook seemed a no-brainer cost wise, but I'd MUCH rather have a real book I could flip through, highlight, etc. Seems like I remember seeing $115 for the paper edition before going into shock.

I'll be damned, you are right. I have one that was traded in and never even noticed that tiny little viewfinder on there.

Heh. That little viewfinder's location is what I really love about this camera. It keeps my big nose from squashing on the LCD.

Sorry, misread your comment. You control EVF or Monitor view in the menu selection called "FINDER/MONITOR".

Again, I may have read wrong, but Friedman's ebook indicates this feature is to set the type of information you want to see in the LCD and EVF. Like the histogram, etc. This particular setting is located on the Gear menu-1 as 'DISP button'.

Somebody stop me if I'm wrong. I'm reading the fricking thing now and maybe it's running together in my mind.

Its called "Pre-AF". Set it to off. This is for turning the EVF sensing off.

"Live View Display" turns live view on/off.

If I understood the Friedman ebook, the 'Pre-AF' is entirely something different and nothing to do with the LCD/EVF. It tells the camera to try to focus on whatever it's pointed at before the shutter button or BBF is pressed. I took it to mean the camera would be continually trying to focus all the time. Did I interpret wrong?

Nope, went back to check. It's on page 313, where he says basically what I paraphrased, and that it's a great battery-drainer.

Thank you! Its a cheap 75mm-300mm Sigma, cheap meaning $139 . Great lens for the price.

Great shots. May I ask where you got the lens?

Both TexasDon and Marionsho could have learned about Peak Design.by doing a UHH search for "camera strap" and reading the many previous posts. They are both unique individuals, but there is no need to open a new thread for questions that have already been covered in depth.

I think you've made your point. After several similiar posts you passed the helpful stage and entered the anal stage. Just saying.

I also am appreciative of those that ask questions that lead me into new products. Thanks for that.

The A6000 only has a rear LCD so you are always in live view mode when the camera is on.

Uh, you must be thinking about another model. A6000 has both LCD and EVF and I believe you can control which stays on from the menu. However, I won't swear to that 'cause I've only had mine a week or so and am still reading. I think I read something about controlling which is on but I'll have to go back and check. I'll update if I find definitive answer.

Nice shots.
For some reason my Sony bridge blows out the red coloration and I can never get a good shot of a cardinal. Haven't had the opportunity to try one with my new A6000 Sony.

Thanks, ron. The view is from the plains looking NE. Location about 20 miles north of Colorado Springs, 20 miles east from the foothills.

I've been 20 miles north of CS but not another 20 miles east. We love those mountains! Our summer stay is about 140-150 miles SW of your pic. Maybe 100 miles as the crow flies?

Why do you want to bracket with a mirrored? The image is identical to what you see in the viewfinder.

I'm sure you meant to ask, "...bracket with a mirrorless?". Correct?

To the OP, I have just bought the A6000 but don't know the answer yet. I'm reading. I'll come back if I find what you asked.

Very nice photo. Like someone above said, you can almost feel the breeze picking up.

Question - when I zoomed in really close there appears to a a mountain range beyond the cluster of houses on the far left. Am I actually seeing a couple of peaks or is that just more cloud formations low on the horizon? I've never been up on the plains so I don't have a clue if there are distant mountains anywhere. I know that if you were on the eastern plains of Colorado and looking west you'd definitely see mountains. EDIT - well DUH, I went back to see your location and I think I probably know the answer to my question.

Anyway, nice work.

My A6000 and stuff came last Thursday. So far I'm really liking it. The 16-50mm kit lens may be a little disappointing but maybe I just haven't learned what it needs to be fed in terms of setup. The 55-210mm seems to be sharper. I got the Friedman ebook and it's going to take awhile to learn all the little ins and outs of this rig. Gonna be fun. I'm already wanting a longer lens.

Duh, my A6000 kit lens is a 16-50mm, not 16-55 like I said above.
