I'm not sure if the grainy look is added deliberately. Whatever the truth is, it looks more like a mistake than a tasteful addition. The grainy look works better as a softening effect, and this image is contrasty and sharp. I'd also be inclined to make the shadows on the other side of the lake a bit less impenetrable. But the reflections are definitely effective.

Lovely misty moody series. Not sure I could handle hill walking any more but it would be great to sit and contemplate these beautiful scenes! Very well done.

Thank you CW. I'm not up to much hillwalking myself - fortunately I got all I need in this glen without having to hike to another.

Lovely series, R.G. I enjoyed the tour! I find #3 particularly appealing for the boathouse and lone tree. How does a single tree thrive like this??

btw, North Yorkshire resident SylviaS recently posted some photos from Scotland to Gallery, and I remarked to her that they are the first sunshine shots of Scotland I've ever seen on UHH

Thank you Linda. That "single" tree has plenty other family members just a bit further up the glen. And the sun does shine here..... sometimes . I distinctly remember posting a sunny shot back in '14....

This is a bit rough and ready compared to some of the other posts here. Definitely one of the more enjoyable edits .

I tried to bring out the "world dominance" look but just kept coming up with "beautiful"...

Glen Muick will be familiar with UK hillwalkers because it gives access to a network of footpaths that lead into the Cairngorms.

The rainy shots were what I got the first time I went there. As you can see, the second time I went back the weather was vastly improved .

Funny. I was thinking Venus on the principle that Mars doesn't have much cloud cover. 😅

And I think your fix on the bright puddles is excellent!

Nice mood. Could almost be Mars on a cloudy day.

There's probably nobody following by now, but I'll post anyway. I hadn't actually tried doing anything with those puddles and I thought I might be being over-cautious, so I gave it a go.

The main idea that I wanted to try was to add the colour of the path to the puddles. Then I darkened and de-contrasted the puddles a bit and de-contrasted the path as a whole.

The puddles will always be eye-catching, but I didn't want to clone them out.

My thought is this shot was taken from above the falls looking down. The illusion being that the picture was taken from the side and the water flowing towards you instead of away.

Hello, AIR. You're just about right with the perspective, but it's not what the picture was all about. I've already explained it in a previous post -

A good vintage effect all round. Perhaps the large black splotches in the sky are a bit more than is needed.

Just winding down now. I think I've answered most of the queries by now (including the last one, which was " Why bother? " lol).

I get the impression that idea could work really well with a simplified background. There's just a bit too much going on in the rafters, especially at the top right hand side - the details are distracting.
