All drugs have two names, a trade name and generic name.

Example, the trade name is Tylenol and it's generic name is Acetaminophen.. Aleve is also called Naproxen. Amoxil is also called Amoxicillin and Advil is also called Ibuprofen.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra.

After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

Pfizer Corp. announced today that Viagra will soon be available in liquid form, and will be marketed by Pepsi Cola as a power beverage suitable for use as a mixer. It will now be possible for a man to literally pour himself a stiff one.

Obviously we can no longer call this a soft drink, and it gives new meaning to the names of 'cocktails', 'highballs' and just a good old-fashioned 'stiff drink'.

Pepsi will market the new concoction by the name of: MOUNT & DO.

Thought for the day: There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research.

This means that by 2020, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

I had some time to kill today and decided to figure out how much I have spent on photographic and video equipment over the years.

I will start out by stating that I am not a professional photographer, so all of my purchases have been in support of my hobby. I will further state that I have always considered myself a conservative spender when it comes to my hobby, so it came as quite a shock when I realized how much I have spent over the years.

When calculating the cost, I didn't increase prices to reflect inflation over the years, and some of the prices that I used in my calculations were estimates, since I no longer have all receipts for my past purchases.

Bottom line! I estimate the cost (to date) to be in excess of $17,000.00

Do you have the courage to calculate the cost of your hobby?

I Dare You.

Not sure I want to know, 'cause it would compel me to get an insurance rider. Of course, I should get one anyway

We have over 45,000 members, and as numbers grow, they often grow exponentially. There are 45k people who know about this site, and they are telling others, so you can expect more new people now than three years ago.

As for the questions, I don't see a problem. This site is free, so anyone can ask anything. Cameras are a lot different than they were back in the Instamatic days. When an owner's manual is over 200 pages long, you know there are a lot of features.

It is also as much of a social forum as anything else, so getting into a discussion isn't a crime. People like to communicate with other people, and asking a very basic question is often a good way to get started. Also, many of us don't have PhDs, and for some, English is not their native language, so wording is sometimes difficult to follow.

The less information people have, the more difficult it is for them to ask an intelligent question.

I was reading one of Scott Kelby's books and he mentioned when traveling he backs up his memory cards on an Epson P 7000 portable remote hard drive with a review screen. I tried to find it and it is now longer available. I have searched Adorama and B&H and can't find a similar portable device with the view screen. The good thing is that it works without a computer. Does anyone have an alternative device?

John, did you look at the Foci Digital Picture Porter 35 on the B&H site? I have had one for several years and used it on a number of trips. NO computer needed. And it accepts CF and SD cards. And it has a viewing screen to look at your masterpieces. The capacity on the latest version is 500GB.

[quote=Moxiesmom] I am buying a tripod for shooting my volunteer luncheon, this will be pics of about 40 volunteers all over 65,lets see how that goes. At least they and me won't be moving as fast. lol!

Just a heads up on a tripod purchase. The subject of "what's a good tripod" appears almost daily on the forum. If you are new to tripods, might be worth a search here to read what experts say. In other words, you will be terribly disappointed with a $39.95 tripod, or even a $100.00 one. If you have already done the tripod research, please disregard my post.

Good Luck!

Yeah, I have owned about as long. Also, my high school class was composed of roughly 50-50 males and females; total class size was 289. Not big by big city standards, but still, no one - male or female - ever committed a firearm crime. At least so far  and we had our 50th class reunion in 2010.

And my generation grew up playing with toy guns, playing cowboys and indians & cops & robbers. Yet, no school shootings or "going postal".

An attorney arrived home late, after a very tough day trying to get a stay of execution. His last minute plea for clemency to the governor had failed and he was feeling worn out and depressed.

As soon as he walked through the door at home, his wife started on his about, 'What time of night to be getting home is this? Where have you been? Dinner is cold and I'm not reheating it'. And on and on and on.

Too shattered to play his usual role in this familiar ritual, he poured himself a shot of whiskey and headed off for a long hot soak in the bathtub, pursued by the predictable sarcastic remarks as he dragged himself up the stairs.

While he was in the bath, the phone rang. The wife answered and was told that her husband's client, James Wright, had been granted a stay of execution after all. Wright would not be hanged tonight.

Finally realizing what a terrible day he must have had, she decided to go upstairs and give him the good news..

As she opened the bathroom door, she was greeted by the sight of her husband, bent over naked, drying his legs and feet.

'They're not hanging Wright tonight,' she said.

He whirled around and screamed, 'FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WOMAN, DON'T YOU EVER STOP?'

. Screw the truth let's just support our guys regardless of the issue or the right and wrong of the issue. BTW both sides are guilty of blindly supporting their respective parties regardless. My god look at some of the people we elect. We wouldn't invite most of them to our homes for dinner but we elect them to govern our lives...go figure.

I agree. The two parties have become polarized where only the party matters. They are, in essence, their own special interest groups. How often have we heard over the years...."throw the bums out and elect all new ones"? But who put the bums in office? We the people. A whole set of new ones would most likely develop like the old ones. I have not yet read the book, but I believe Michelle Malkin's book "Culture of Corruption" covers the subject.

Not only are the parties polarized, but IMHO our society has become polarized. Can you think of any cultural category in the U.S. in which the center position is the majority? Politics? Religion? Health care (incl abortion)? Race? Economics? Gun control? The list goes on and on. Oh, I can think of two that we all agree on whether conservative, liberal, right, or left: shopping and freedom to own & operate motor vehicles  Take those away and you might see a very drastic reaction - revolution anyone?

I'm not a history expert, but I did minor in the history of Western Civilization in college. If my memory serves me correctly, no great culture that went into decline ever managed to resurrect itself to its' former pinnacle. I believe our society is in a socio-cultural decline. Do I hope I'm wrong? You bet your sweet bippi. If so, I would like to live to see that I was wrong. Otherwise, I hope I've checked out prior to the final debacle, whatever form that might take.

I find this subject quite interesting, but also sad.

My observation after reading all posts is that the small town, locally owned camera shop is a dinosaur. Only large metro areas can still support full service/selections. Of course, there are exceptions, but few.

This is similar to other specialty retail categories, such as gun shops & model train stores. They are disappearing on a daily basis.

Ritz Camera was the last to leave my home town; and while it was here it was a shadow of Ritz stores in the big cities. All we have is Best Buy, Staples, Sear's, Walmart. I doubt I would see in these stores (only speaking in my town) quality tripods, heads, lenses, camera bodies. I was in Staples yesterday and for kicks, I strolled over to look at their camera offerings: one dslr, a Canon Rebel with low end kit lens. No optional lenses available. Rest of camera selections were intro point & shoot.

So, in my case, no local camera store. I have to use the internet. Maybe that's good, because if I lived close to a B&H or Adorama I would have a serious case of GAS :)
