A couple of people recently asked for advice about upcoming trips to Galapagos. I had the opportunity to visit there a couple of years ago and thought they might enjoy some pics to wet their appetite.

And they say it's as hot down there as it is here in Phoenix... true?

We went there in mid-May. No, in fact it was cool in the mornings and evenings. We got splashed on quite a bit so that also cooled us off. But in general, we were quite comfortable most of the time. I think being down on the river is cooler than standing at the rim.

Am working down my bucket list and the Galapagos are next up for 2018. Any recommendations on the best way to see the islands would be appreciated. Lots of choices but hearing from those who have been there would be invaluable. Am looking at Linblad and Celebrity cruises but know there are other good ones out there. Want to have the time to take pictures and see as much of the islands as possible as I will not be going back a second time. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

We went on a Road Scholar trip there a couple of years ago. Small group was nice - I would highly recommend looking for a small ship (no more than 20). Going with Celebrity or Linblad you will probably be with many other people and probably see less/have less time on the islands. Our Road Scholar trip also included Machu Picchu - a beautiful sight.

These are great. I've always wanted to do that. The views you get from the bottom are so awesome. How did you keep your camera dry? What raft company did you use? Did you go all the way down, or did you have to hike out at Bright Angel?

Thanks! I purchased a waterproof bag from REI and stuffed my camera in there when needed. They also provided old ammunition boxes to store things in on the raft. We used Grand Canyon Expeditions Company - I would highly recommend them. Great food and, due to the size of the rafts, safe. Even my wife, who was very apprehensive about the trip (she called the company three times to ask if the raft would tip over) felt secure in it. We went all the way down - about 180 miles, although the last 20 miles we were transferred to a jet boat because the river slows down so much.

Having been to the bottom MANY times I always love to see shots from others. Great job!

Thanks Chefdz! I'm sure each trip is different with different things sighted each time.

Enjoyed the set. I have seen the canyon from the top but never the bottom. Good set.

Thanks bcheary! It was a wonderful ride - highly recommended!

Nice series MikWar! Really captures the scale of the canyon looking up from the river.

You don't see as far when you're on the river compared to being on the rim, but you get a much greater sense of the age and the depth of the canyon.

Very nice landscapes - I really like the composition of #1. Good work. Just being there and shooting is half the process.

Thanks! Number 6 is my favorite - the peak of the mountain is the same elevation as where we started the trip (Lee's Ferry). It was a little scary being on a raft with my camera - I learned how to get it in and out of a waterproof bag quickly.

Beautiful, especially those "snaky" clouds.

Thanks - those clouds grabbed my eye, too.
