With a 500mm you won't see much of Mars. The moon is only 240 thousand miles away so you can see some detail at 500mm, but Mars is 57 million miles away and will only look like a bright star.

Sounds like an event for a telescope with camera adapter, no?

Since the subject of tele-extenders is a frequent subject matter here, I thought I would mention an article in April's Outdoor Photographer by George Lepp, "Eagle Eyes". In an inset he demonstrated the use of multiple tele-extenders. He used a Canon 5D Mark III with an 800mm/5.6L lens. Photos were of an eagle at some distance away (don't remember how far).
1st photo - with only the 800mm
2nd " - with 1.4tc added = 1120mm
3rd " - with 2x " = 1600mm
4th " - with 2x + 1.4 = 2240mm
5th " - with 2 2x added = 3200mm
6th " - with 2 2x + 1.4 = 4800mm

So, with all three tele-extenders piggy-backed, the 4800mm image is 6 times larger than the original 800, right?

My single question is: which image would be sharper - the 800mm cropped to 6x or the 4800 as taken?

I think his demo was to illustrate what is possible, rather than suggest we have to go to those extremes to get a good telephoto shot.

Yeah, and just who was it that elected these criminals, and why? Surely all us good American voters investigated all them Candidates as to their backgrounds, etc. Surely we wouldn't go and vote for somebody just because they belonged to a particular political party......or because their skin was a particular color.....or because some "leader" in our community told us who to vote for...or because we know that if we elect a certain person, that they'll get us all kind of "free stuff" or because we, ourselves, were (are) too damn lazy to get off our arses and learn the truths about political candidates before we send them to a Capitol to spend our hard-earned tax dollars.
Yeah, just WHO was that that sent all them thieves and criminals up their to steal and waste our hard-earned tax dollars. US? Oh surely not. Not us proud American voters!
(People have the kind of Government that they deserve!)
Live with it!..and foolishly pray that "Term Limits" will cure all that kind of stuff instead of us having to cure it ourselves by actually DOING something about it instead of posting whiny complaints on some Forum and pretending that we've done something to alleviate the problem.

Just WHO sucks more, the American Voter, or the living Slime that we elect...and re-elect.

I agree with you. But I also think the best and most honorable people qualified to lead are no longer willing to engage in the political morass. Our choice now is simply between the Republican or Democratic candidate. Party is now supreme; all else is of little matter.

Another consideration is that a month now down the track, with a flotilla to rival the Spanish Amarda swanning around out there, Planes like LA international & all the Satellite images. All the suspected flotsam which MIGHT be from the plane, only a couple of bits have been picked up & they were fishing boat related.
In short NOTHING has been found relating to it.
A 777 falling from the sky or even trying a belly landing on the open ocean with a 5 metre swell, there would be damage & therefore flotsam.

Good point. The fuselage almost certainly would have been breached, allowing all kinds of floatable stuff to pour out, esp life saving equipment - seat cushions, etc?

Gives new meaning to the "he, she, or it" gender language.

In the 2010 U.S. Census, the gender choice was "male, female, or other". I wonder how many categories fit in "other"?

I was at my local bank today when some-one tried to rob it armed with a kitchen knife. I didn't care if a bank gets robbbed that's the risk they take, but I did have my camera with me. He pointed the knife at me and said "give me that camera", (language has been moderated here so as not to offend). I said " this is a Canon 1D mark 4, it's made from magnesium alloy and when it was first produced it cost around five grand. Do you have any idea how much damage you could do to it if you tried taking it by force?" I think that threw him for a while, and whilst he was looking confused, I hit him around the side of the head with it and said " none at all " Staff then held him until the police arrived.

edit Just noticed the typo in the title but not sure how to rectify it.

I am planning a trip up into Maine before we head to Nantucket this September. I am looking for any information on Kennebunkport and the coastal area for great photographic locations or points of interest. Also, any info on great places to stay and eat would be appreciated. I have been through Olgonquit, but no farther north and figure that there is a vast wealth of knowledge among the hogger community from which I can learn. As always, thanks on advance!

Acadia National Park is a must. A friend of mine is a professional photographer and has visited Acadia many times. He stated that you could not see the whole place in a month. If weather permits, the top of Cadillac Mtn affords a super panorama view of the entire Bar Harbor port area.

Most of you responding to the original poster are reacting as if he believed this theory. He did not make this up, but merely passing it on for info/entertainment. He only opined that it was in a class by itself as to conspiracy theories.

. As long as it is not enclosed to prevent air circulation, yes you can go to one that gives the equivalent light or a 100 w tungsten bulb instead of one designed to the equivalent of a 60w tungsten. Just don't use LED's in an enclosed fixture like a ceiling light with a glass dome , where there is NO air circulation.

I have two ceiling light fixtures in the kitchen, each of which have three bulb sockets. Each fixture is enclosed by a glass globe. Put in LEDs about 5 years ago and are still working fine. No heat emanating from the globes. When I had flourescent bulbs in there, the heat generated was very hot. Those burned out prematurely.

I have mostly LEDs in my house, but have had no luck with ones claimed to be dimmable, regardless of brand. They dim about half way down, then go out. That's not suitable for some of our fixtures. Another problem I have is finding suitable lumen output for candelabra LEDs. I have hanging ceiling fixtures in my hallways that use candelabra lights. Bought a bunch & installed, but one died a couple of weeks later. Went back to store (Lowe's) to get credit and get another one only to discover they no longer carry the specific lumen model I need. So, I either have to replace all to keep the lights even, or leave one bulb out and live with it. I even checked eBay and could not find one in the lumen output I need.

[quote=LFingar]They both plug into the camera and work great with my 70D but unfortunately the 6D requires a different plug.

I'm confused as to why a "plug" is required for a wireless trigger. My RC-6 works without any plug.

As "delicate" as I am at times I could have used a concrete pillar and still induced movement when I pushed the button. I guess I better order the proper cord for my remote!

Have you considered the Canon RC-6? No cord to fiddle with, unless you need a 50 footer :) In spite of descriptions indicating one must be right in front of the camera to trigger the shutter, I found that complaint to be somewhat exaggerated. I just reach around the right side of the camera mount and trigger. Works every time for me. Beware of aftermarket knockoffs, however. They're making them look exactly like the Canon version.

I'm using a 6D also. Have had it since July, and still learning
