Ronbo would you consider $675 which is about the highest I can go. Part of the problem is this is considered grey market in the us and Nikon USA won’t touch it with a 10 ft poll if it ever needs service. This is a shame because I live 15 mins away from their service center? Let me know!

That was last weekend.

I had same problem with win 8.1. Updates downloaded but would not install and machine ran slow as could be. I called microsoft tech support and they talked me thru a procedure of refreshing my files. No data loss, no files lost, just a refreshing of the systems files automatically. It took several hours to complete, but the end result was the machine runs great, and never had a problem since. I don't know if microsoft still supports win 7 but you may find something in a book on the operating system which describes the process. I was able to find it for win 8 after the fact when i knew what to look for. If the process is available, it's cheaper than buying something.
