You can bet the farm that health insurance companies never take a bath.

Maris broke Ruth's record, Mantle did not. Mantle did however, once hit a homer that traveled 565 feet

Mantle’s longest MEASURED home run was on 10Sept 1960 in Detroit. It went over the roof in right at Tiger Stadium, across the street and landed in a lumber yard. The distance was 643 feet.

Both Mantle and Maris breaking Ruth’s record. The whole country was following and anticipating.

The Mick never broke Ruth’s record. He hit 54 that year, 1961, he most he ever hit in a season.

I go back to the early 60's,and still have a love for jazz. A truly American style of music. In New York City there was a radio station WADO that played jazz exclusively. The name that they used was WADO Radio. We attended Jazz shows at the Village Vanguard. Both WADO and the Vanguard are long gone

The Vanguard is still open. They’re streaming live Fri night, Ron Carter with Russell Malone and Donald Vega.

When I was a kid, I was at an amusement part, and they had a sign pointing to "Rare South American Red Bats." After climbing the ladder, sure enough - a pair of red baseball bats.

That was Steeplechase Park in Coney Island Jerry, I spent many a summer’s day there. They had a big pool, entrance to the beach, and some great rides, including electric horses that gave the park its name.

She was simply wonderful, thanks Mark. I didn’t know of the program , but certainly remember Oscar Brown jr and some of his wonderful recording like Dat Dere, A Ladies Man, and Signifyin’ Monkey.

When I was a kid, we used to go there often to see those great layouts. American Flyer had a showroom nearby, as did several other toy companies. We would spend the whole day in the area around The Flatiron Building and Madison Square Park, which used to be know as the Toy District. Once in a while we would go over to 20th street and visit the Theodore Roosevelt birthplace, then head back to Brooklyn the same way we got into The City, by sneaking on the subway.

My friend I thank you for your service. I thank everyone who has ever served. Each of us who served played an important role in America winning the battle, the war. No doubt of that.

But it is the politicians who unfortunately rule our military and we veterans who served. Surely you recall the Obama administration when veterans in some areas died because the supervisors kept a dual set of books and veterans needing help died. That is an example of politics in veterans affairs and why we bring politics up at all. Wouldn’t it be great if veterans were taken care of as they/we should be? Who we vote for makes a difference in our continued healthcare and veterans benefits.

In my opinion the Left does not care about veterans,

Be well,

Dennis

I couldn’t agree with you more that politicians are the problem. Where we differ is that I blame them all. It’s over 45 years since 30April ‘75, and both parties have controlled the White House and the Legislature in that time. Yet most of what Vets have received in that time is horse manure. Look at the water contamination problem at Camp Lejeune. That started right after Korea, and the politicians didn’t even talk about it until ‘09! I think the more time we spend on who to blame, the less there is to find real solutions.

Sorry to spoil your day but it was only veterans who put their lives on the line so the man could post his view whether you like it or not. That is what is meant by FREEDOM.

That is MY way.

Dennis

All of us who served contributed, some more than others. My point was that by throwing politics into the mix, the focus shifts from the disgrace of still having to say homeless Vets and other Vet’s issues, to who you are or are not voting for, who you blame for your perceived issues and problems. Before you know it, nobody is talking about Vets anymore. I know we’re all free to express our opinions, but in this case, if we stick to the topic at hand, the more people we can make aware of what some in the Veteran Community have to face. And by doing that, the greater the chance that maybe, just maybe, one of our Brothers or Sisters doesn’t have to suffer as much.

This thread is about Vets, not your politics and who you support. Lets keep it that way.

Love this tune, thanks Mark. Always, always liked his playing ballads, one of my favorites being “Invitation,” when he was with Blakey. There’s a great documentary out on Netflix about him, his death, and Helen “I Called Him Morgan.”
