Hi Blake,
I wasn't talking about a image, but about the audio portion of it. Here in Washington you can record video or take photos from anywhere you have a right to be, but except for certain exceptions you need permission to record the audio portion of a video. Example during a normal traffic stop the audio could be recording all the time and no permission is needed. If how ever we decided we wanted to record the audio portion I would activate the mike and then advised the person that from this time forward everything that is said is being recorded, unless he/she states they do not want to be audio recorded. I never had a person say "no" but if they did I would want evidence of their refusal so they couldn't claim later the audio was erased.
This was our department's policy until 1996 when I retired. Any changes since then is unknown.

More information can be found here:
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=9.73&full=true
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=19.25&full=true

However I just did one little search and see that some requirements have been changed. Here is a link to a 2003 memo of Mercer Island Police Deppartment rules (not my department).

Depending on the states, in some state only one party needs to know that they are being recorded. However, that is not compareable to a picture. Perticularly, when ther are no specific individuals that can be identified like the photo in England. If there was one or more identifiable subjects in the image then and it was on private property then you would be correct. Do you remember The photo of the firefighter that was carrying the infant in his arms when the Muro Building was bombed? That Firefighter was just doing his job. Are you suggesting that or anyother image can not be taken and used. Please do not read this as an asult on your take on the subject but I am trying to elisit a discussion. Thank you for your Service to the country and to our community.

If you use Carbonite or other cloud sites for backup, check your ISP account for band width restrictions, if any. One local user here who used Carbonite went to restore his computer and exceeded his ISP band width restrictions and his account was terminated by the company, no warnings. It made the local news (slow news day).

I like your flowers and the black ground. I often thought about taking a small black screen with me to place behind flowers.
Here are a few I took this week early in the morning while at Pt Defiance Park in Tacoma.

Here are two of myself taken about 25 years ago. I've got less hair now and a few more pounds added since retiring.

My wife made a backdrop from muslin, used a pcv pipe to roll it up on and some cheap spring clamps from the hardware store to secure it. At first she used a long piece of bamboo (we have plenty of that), but the pcv is easier to roll on.

I have the 5D Mk 1 and love the photos from it. I find I have to less processing work, the images are clean & sharp. The quality of the lens affects photo quality more on a full frame sensor.

One other thing that I do. Usually I will be taking several single photo shots and several panorama's at the same location. Unlike Point&shoot's that keep the panorama's together via file numbers, my 5D does not.
To keep track of which photos are suppose to part of a panorama shot I take a photo of my hand at the start and at the end of each series of photos that are to be used in the panorama. I will take several series of the same scene this way. Then later when processing them I can keep them together and change the file names to represent each series of photos.

I use two external hard drives, but they are kept in the same fire safe inside the house. I know, one of the drives should be off site. We do have a alarm system that also monitor's for fire.

A few years ago my brother's house burn down to the foundation and all they had left was the clothes they were wearing and the car they drove up in, but no one was home at the time and no injuries.
He did have very good insurance for the physical stuff, but all photos, albums and personal family stuff was gone. Between my other brothers we were able to replace a lot of the family photos.
We plan on getting a safe deposit box, but we are within a mile of the fire department and not out in the country like my brother was.

I really liked the Sigma lens for quality & built, but the OS portion did not seem to work as described ( 4 stops). I think the best it could do was about two stops. It could be this lens and I could send it in to Sigma to have it checked, but decided to return it to B&H and exchange for the Canon 100L mirco lens. Should have it in about a week.
