I second the advice to check out Puget Systems. They build custom towers specifically for Lightroom and Photoshop. You can configure your machine exactly the way you want it and it will be warranted for life.

SS,

I personally know that a camera can limit your ability. I purchased a 6D because my interests are landscape, macro, and portrait photography. What I didn't consider at the time was that I have 3 boys that play sports. A 6D is by no means a great camera for sports, BIF, or anything else that is fast moving. It does do very well in low light though. I used that camera for football, lacrosse, wrestling, and track and field. It worked, but I really felt the FPS were limiting. I honestly could still use the camera, but I chose to upgrade to something that was a little faster. Amazed by the amount of keepers now! Surprisingly, an upgraded camera can make all the difference!
Some folks just do not like others to upgrade or spend money. Still can not figure that one out.

I am guessing that Canon has been burned too many times from credit card fraud/identity theft and is trying to cut down on losses from such.

It would have been nice if the OP would have come back to share an update as to the end result with Canon.

You missed the bulk of the statement. The cost was a closing statement not condoning or condemning. If you feel the cost of goods makes you a better photographer then by all means ...spend away.

Not all cameras are equal, do you realize that? Sometimes you have to spend more money for quality goods that can give the output one seeks. If everyone was interested in mediocre, then a cell phone is all one needs for their purposes.

But if that was the main argument, then everyone would jump to Canon. (Or Sigma the way they are putting out great glass.) But it is the system that counts. How everything works together. Sensor, glass, focus system, etc... Still goes to Canon as a system though.

But if I were starting over, I would go mirrorless since in a few years those systems look like they will rock. They just need a few more good lenses.

Oh, I agree. You are buying into a system and depending on what you shoot there are several systems to consider. Since the OP states he will be shooting sports the two best (whole) systems for that would be Nikon or Canon.

What have you be using?? Has your life been in the doldrums because you do not have a D810?? How will your life be improved by having a D810? Can you amortize the cost as a business expense? What is your audience? If you take bad pictures with your current camera will this addition inspire to take better pictures?
Some of the pictures taken with cell phones would indicate for the average Joe or Jane you really don't need to spend that kind of money to take some very nice pictures.

Seriously? I don't understand why some people feel the need to get on their high horse when someone wants to purchase a new camera. Why even comment? It shouldn't bother you in the least. It is not your money. It has nothing to do with you, your life, or your ability to take pictures. If the guy wants to purchase a new camera, let him.

With what you shoot either the 80D, if you want to stay with a crop, or the new 6DII. The 6DII would pair wonderfully with your 24-70.

Nikon continues to hold strong in the DSLR camera market with 39.1% market share (compared to Canon's 54.7% share). Nikon has benefited greatly by using well-regarded Sony sensors in its cameras.
Sony sensor technology is so great that company like Nikon who capture 39.1% of the DSLR market depends upon Sony sensors. I am not sure if Nikon heading towards bankruptcy but looking at the current decline in sales and loss of profits every year and limiting budget for R & D let's see how long they may sustain. I suggested Sony because if Nikon is depending on Sony sensor technology then why not just buy the Sony.
Nikon benefits from Sony's R&D by implementing their sensors in Nikon cameras. However, Nikon has done very little in terms of inventing new features on the cameras themselves. They have been slow to implement connectivity features as well as making any effort to reduce the size and weight of their gear. Sony is dumping billions of dollars into research and development of image sensors, which seems to be paying dividends. That also translates into camera sales, because they often prevent other companies from using their imaging sensors until Sony has used the sensor for 6 months in their own cameras. Your choice of camera is obviously a personal decision. But I hope that this background information can help you to make a more informed decision with your dollars.
Nikon continues to hold strong in the DSLR camera ... (show quote)

Because Nikon's optics are head and shoulders above Sony's.

OP, I think you are grasping at straws here. Even if you flip either picture, the poses are different. Also, the tattoo is a prominent piece of the drawn pic, all yours has is an obnoxious watermark.

Even though I own mostly Canon gear, it would be the 750 for me. Perfect camera for sports / action.

This is me too. I would be changing over to Nikon. I wish I would have switched when I upgraded from my T3. Now I am firmly Canon. Although, I really do love my 5DIV!

What is with all the doom and gloom over Nikon? They will not be going out of business anytime soon. They are a fairly diversified company.

If you are shooting your baseball and/or football at night under stadium lights I would still go with the full frame. Another option would be to go with the Nikon D500, but again if you are shooting sports at night...full frame is remarkably better with the noise. I shoot high school football under poorly lit stadium lights. I am going to add two pictures here one with the 7DII and the other with a 5DIV.

I use an external hard drive that I connect through one of the USB ports to store my photographs. I use Lightroom and I choose my external drive to upload my photos. Works well. A good place to look for external drives is through Other World Computing (www.macsales.com) they can guide you to some of the easiest and best external drives for your particular MacBook.

As a person who is a Canon user you may be surprised at my answer. Your best IQ will be had with the Nikon D750. I am guessing that you are mostly using kit lens(es) and by selling what you have and putting it to the D750 with it's kit lens will give the best performance between the two cameras on your list. The 7DII is great for action and wildlife, but it is not great in low light. If you area general all around photographer you will be happier with the Nikon.
