Took a couple of pictures at Watson Lake just a short distance from my home here in Prescott, AZ. These were taken last July during the Monsoon season.

What time of year would you recommend going to this area to capture the most striking images?

Howdy,

1st week in April and $2000 budget where would you go and what would you take images of ?

Jim

Tuscon, AZ. The Saguaro National Park. The temperatures are mild this time of year, not too hot, just right. There are two sides to the park and both offer great desert photography.

I would like to put a picture on canvas for my Great Granddaughter. Any recommendations on where or who I should use? Here is the photo.

I've use "inpixito" on many occasions for canvas and all were perfect. I use Bay Photo for metal prints and they are beautiful.

A cool, foggy morning in Golden Gate Park.

I can imagine that most morning walks in
Golden Gate Park are cool and foggy. Nice set, love the colors in the flowers.

Bay Photo has done two 20 x 30 metal prints for me that are beautiful. You might try them.

On the other side of Yosemite, an interesting landscape. If you are ever there, early morning is the best time to see it.

Excellent use of light and composition. I had to cancel a trip there this past May, so am glad to see your photos to see what they look like properly photographed.

Does anyone use a online company that does metal prints? Walgreens no longer does them. Costco requires a membership number and I am not a member. Shutterfly website does not work in spite of offering metal prints.

With the demise of photo stores, on line seems the only option. Just can't find something user friendly to use.

Any success you have had would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I've used Bay Photo and am very satisfied. Two are 20 x 30 in size.

I was there in 1984 and found it to be a moving experience. Being a Christian, I also took a tour of the Old City which I found to be a very unique experience. I'm sure things have chanced a lot since then.

Moved into Stoneridge in Feb. Like the area: Plenty of photo opportunities, mild weather, good things in Prescott. Close to the Grand Canyon! Short on shopping.

I live in Prescott and love it here. You forgot to mention the photo opportunities in Sedona which is only an hour's drive away. Also, Watson Lake is also rich with photo opportunities right here in our back yard. I could go on.

I have been a hobbyist photographer for over 30 years with thousands of images. With serious prodding from my wife I am now printing some of these images larger than 8 x 10. I am trying to choose between canvas prints and metal prints. I have been comparing the results and I noticed something with my metal prints that I was hoping some of you knowledgeable UHH er's might be able to elaborate on for me. The canvas images look really good and no matter where I put them it always looks the same with the lighting. My metal images look fantastic as long as they are in the landscape orientation. If the metal images are vertical regardless of the subject they have a dull look to it. As soon as I turn that portrait orientation to a landscape orientation with the lighting it looks beautiful. My landscape orientation images all look as I expected until I turn them vertical and then get that same dull look. So I will assume that the light is reflecting differently off of the metal images when it is in the portrait orientation vs the landscape orientation. All of the portrait orientation images are dull looking unless you have them lit from the side which kind of goes against everything that I have learned in regards to presenting your images. I would like to hear from anybody that might have also experienced this with their images. I purchased the metal prints from Printerpix. So I am thinking based on what I see that any portrait orientation images will need to be purchase as a canvas and landscape orientation images can be either format.

I have several canvas prints done by Pixoto that look very nice. Most of them are 30 x 20. My doctor just finished building a new large medical building with several exam rooms and he bought 51 photos of mine in canvas made by the same company in a larger size ( 48 x 32). These also came out very nice. Each photo had a resolution of at least 12MG, so they were able to be sharp even at that size.

I had been wanting to see what a metal print would look like so I ordered a 20 x 30 metal print from Bay Photo. It's a glossy finish and it really looks nice. If all metal prints came out like this one, I would be tempted to order more. However, there was a substantial cost difference from the canvas to the metal. If the metal were more affordable, I would probably have most of my photos done in the metal finish.

Is there anyway to make an interesting photo of a cactus? I am on my way to Phoenix where I have been once before and couldn't do it then.
Thanks,

Just outside of Tucson is the Saguaro National Park, split into two sections: East and West. My wife and I were just there last week and you can shoot cacti until your blue in the face. Just let your creative juices flow. Here's a couple we took.

Thank you for the offer. I appreciate it. I plan on shooting twice a day – morning twilight – scout sites – evening twilight. I still have to work some during the day and I am grateful for the Internet and computers.

Dave, as you know from being a photographer, the best time to shoot is the golden hour, 2 hours before sunset. This is especially true for both Sedona and the Grand Canyon. In Sedona, the red rocks really light up from the setting sun and at the Grand Canyon, the buttes in the Canyon become more well defined. My offer still stands to meet you in Sedona and take you to the places where you can get the best results. We would start shooting late afternoon and move from place to place that are easy driving distance from each other. There is a place in Crecent Moon Ranch where there is a great reflection of Cathedral Rock in Oak Creek that I like to go to. I'll attach a couple of pictures I shot at this location. Just let me know if you're interested. I'm not a commercial photographer, just wanting to help.

Same for me... I'm a private pilot that is afraid of heights! I guess the climb-out has my full attention and is rapid enough for me to get through the first few hundred feet of altitude. After that, no problem! On the other hand, ladders, rooftops, skyscrapers, etc. all present the fear-factor. Is that odd, or what?😳

I go to the Grand Canyon frequently and see this sort of thing with young people showing off. I was told by one of the guides at the Canyon that they pick up around 20 to 30 bodies a year on the bottom of the Canyon floor. Not worth the risk.
