"Not only pilots, but also spectators, are killed in airshow crashes. I could never understand why pilots feel compelled to fly old fighter planes or other very old planes just to show people that they can fly."

What compelled the pilots is the spectators.

It's not to show people that they can fly but to show the aircraft and what it is capable of, especially the warbirds. A lot of people have never heard the sound of a radial engine at full throttle or seen a warbird except in photos. Crashes can happen at anytime and can be caused by any number of things including pilot incapatation.

Aircraft in civilian use goes through an annual inspection, this is a complete open up of all areas of the airframe and flight deck/cockpit, all cables are checked for corrosion, fraying, proper tension etc., the flight controls are checked for any damage, the airframe itself is inspected for damage, corrosion etc., the eng is inspected for worn, torn, damaged tubing/hoses etc. These inspections are not cheap as it requires the use of license techs and inspectors. Before the aircraft is returned to service all repairs have be completed and sighed off by an inspector.

Commercial aviation goes through what is called phase inspection to complete an Annual inspection. There are usually four phases where only a portion of the aircraft is looked at in detail. By the time phase four has been completed it's time to start over with phase 1. Every 4 to 6 years the aircraft goes into heavy maintenance where the aircraft is gutted and everything is completely inspected and any mods the company wants to incorporate such as a new interior configuration, updated Lavs, etc. The military also uses the phase inspection program.

It seems that CFexpress cards get very hot very quickly when downloading from a card reader. I downloaded several dozen images, and the both the card and the reader were too hot to handle. Then I tried downloading one image (11.7GB) and a video (561GB). The reader was warm, and the card was warmer.

Looking online, this is a common problem, going back to at least 2020. I must assume that the card would get just as hot when downloading from the camera. I'd rather have a damaged card than a damaged camera, so I'll stick with the card reader. From what I've seen online, the brand of card doesn't matter. I'm using a 64GB Sandisk Extreme Pro.

Funny I use Sandisk CF cards and download from a card reader and sometimes from the camera and I have not had an issue withe the cards getting hot either from the card reader or the camera.

When using the card reader I do a drag and drop of the dcm folder to my desk top, it only takes a couple of minutes or so and when I down load from the camera I download the latest photos taken.

No one ever needs to take a picture, but it does provide a record of what you have built and can give insight into any improvements as you continue to build, and if you want to build it again you will have a plan in photos instead of line drawings or an image in your mind.

I have seen The American Flag flying at various construction sites as well as on cranes along side one of the service flags, usually the Marine Corps flag. It is nice to see both flags being displayed for the public as as a reminder that this is the land of the free and that young people have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep this nation free.

My camera uses CF cards and I have a couple of 32 GB and a couple of 64 GB cards, I create a new file on the card when I go a new area or for the next day. When I get home I use a card reader to download the DCIM files to my computer. The down side is if the card gets damaged or lost before I get home

The camera on the cell phone or iPad is a useful tool. I use it at work to take a photo of part numbers to look up in the IPC (illustrated parts catalog). The techs use photos to record the steps on how something is taken apart so that it can be reassembled in the correct sequence. Also damage is photographed and attached to log pages so the damage can be evaluated. Paint condition is photographed to aid in scheduling the aircraft in for paint refurbishment, so as you can see there are many uses for a cell phone or iPad camera.

I use my camera phone to record my finished leather projects, this not only gives me a record of what I did it also shows what designs/patterns I used. I don't have the room to set up a studio to use a DSLR to photograph my leather projects. Sometimes I will photograph the project from concept to completion, especially if I will be starting and stopping on the project.

enough of my ranting. Have a good day all.

The mechanical calipers are still in use especially at my place of employment. They are on a calibration program in house and the accuracy must be checked at least annually and when ever the accuracy becomes suspect. The caliper is checked out from the tool crib my the Tech and he checks the calibration sticker to verify when the last calibration was done. If past due it is returned to stores keeper to send to the calibration shop. Some of our jobs require us to record the tool number and calibration date which then becomes part of the aircraft records.

Even with the mechanical the accuracy still needs to be verified, especially if it was dropped accidentally or received a hard bump.

Other companies such as Best Buy and Firesstone offer no interest on qualifying purchases. Best Buy can be 6 months to a year, Firestone is strictly 6 months. My wife makes sure that they are paid off in 6 months or year depending on the purchase amount. We always pay more then the minimum payment amount.

And people wonder why I don't fly

My wife sent me an article about a first class passenger who was pulled from the flight from Houston to Amesterdam. They had to divert to ORD because he was disruptive about the meal choices. Law enforcement meet the aircraft and escorted him off the aircraft according to the article.
