this is excellent use of black and white, John. If it was in color, it would seem cluttered and busy because of the competing colors. All shipyards are cluttered but this allows you to see the grasses and the piles of boards and the worn buildings all given dignity by that large shipping vessel. You know I have always admired your work.

Hi Carla.

Thank you for your kind comments. I think we formed a mutual admiration society regarding our work right from the beginning. You see things as an artist which I greatly respect while my single goal is to find an interesting subject and present it in a pleasing way. I’ve learned a lot from you and appreciate your support. I look forward to continuing on as photo buddies for a long time.

Impressive image John.

Don

Thank you, Don. I appreciate you looking and commenting. I bought a Nikon D700 with a 28-300 lens when I retired. After over 40 years of shooting film, this was my first digital camera. It took me several months to get comfortable with the camera. This shot gave me the confidence to continue..

I'd bet that you're a guy who loves to be in the garden tending your babies

I love gardens, buy I have a confirmed black thumb

My family always had a large garden so I grew up helping my father tend to it (under duress). My wife now tends to the flowers while I go shopping for vegetables at the farm stand. I disappear at any sign of manual labor.
