Just remember that "Amazon" is not 'a store' but rather represents but does not guarantee multiple retailers Caveat Emptor!

Adorama has been good for me. I have been particularly pleased that after a few purchases, they ave begun to respond to me as I were someone who regularly walk into their shop. Being treated as a person is nice:)

Our dining room table has been occupied for some time now with slides that I have been sorting in preparation for scanning. I can only admire and envy those who have forged ahead

How do you go ask them when you have close to 20,000 images from people you've fished and hunted with over the past 30 or 40 years? Impossible and impracticable!I can't even remember half their names let alone where they were from or their relatives. Come on!

If you can't remember their names, then chances are you won't know the family and, even if they get angry, it won't bother you. If they are still alive, however, ...

Another important factor (if this hasn't been covered before) would be how much you care about the feeling of the family. If you don't give a rip, do what you will.

I believe you are incorrect about this. Yes of course there are personal agendas but a good reprter learns to put this aside and report with all intentions of being honest and accurate. It takes reading and proofing what you've written and then it must pass by your editor and if he is s good editor he'll pick it up and let you know.

Great!! There is this neat bridge that connect Manhattan to a borough on Long Island and I can get you a good price.

Assuming this is addressed to me, yes, I think I could do that. It doesn't take long to adjust shutter speed or aperture. Or to focus.

On the other hand, the idea of being on a tour with non-photographers does indeed sound a bit nightmarish, which is why I don't do it.

When I do get stuck on one of those tours, I just make sure I know where the bus will be and when ;)

Here's the deal. It may be legal but you may still run into resistance. Most of the police officers will err on the side of caution and protect the families of the victims by preventing you from posting their loved ones somewhere online. If you do not have press credentials you may get bossed around at the scene under the guise of "safety" and when you don't comply 100% & immediately with that directive then you have failed to obey a police officer and then the fun begins. I recommend always obeying the officers commands and get to know them. Stopping by the local precinct and tell them your intent and plans couldn't hurt.

Excellent point, but you are normally obliged only to obey any reasonable and lawful request (and it's a request, not a command), and the police sometimes try it on with unreasonable and unlawful requests. As you suggest, talking to the local cop shop and even getting a letter from them would almost certainly make life MUCH easier for all parties.

Cheers,

That being said Mr. Hicks, there have been an increasing number of reports of overzealous police officers harassing even credentialed and ID carrying Journalists despite obvious 1st Amendment issues. Perhaps using a long lens might keep you back enough to avoid getting in their faces.

And BTW, thank you for your service to the original poster.

I am unclear. Are you documenting the book or what is on the pages? If it id the book, then showing it as a reader would see it should be ok. If you are interested in the contents, try opening the book to 90 deg and shooting one page at a time.

The 5D is better suited for shooting houses and architecture. Is it worth a $1k more? That's really a personal question. I'm sure $1k to you is different than for me.

Keep in mind you are instantly loosing length on every lens you own by switching to full frame.

From the point of view of physics, a 100 mm lens does not change. What you get on a full frame is all of the image not a cropped version. the "gain" in length on a cropped camera is illusory.
