Congratulations on your purchase of a wonderful camera. Listen to the previous posts and read your manual. Then re-read it. And then, to really squeeze the most out of your camera and reach the point where it all becomes second nature read Lowrie's Canon EOS 60D Digital Field Guide. Then re-read that as well.
Follow haroldross' advice and get the superb 15-85mm. For another take on it you might want to check out Canon Wedding Lens Recommendations at www.the-digital-picture.com.
Have been following this forum for ages but never registered. Could not longer resist as I feel perhaps you've all overlooked another excellent option. The 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro works well as a portrait lens, is only a bit pricier than the 85mm, and of course also opens up the endlessly fun world of macro photography.
