I really like this original but so many people are "playing around" and having fun that I couldn't resist. So here's what I did, as best I can remember. a) Duplicated the background. b) Applied a crystalize filter. c) Softened the crystalized image with a gaussian blur. d) Reduced opacity to approximately 50% to blend it back to the original. e) Used a layer mask to hide the bloom and further adjusted the blur and opacity of the background. This image just came out, much like when Aaron threw the gold earrings into the fire and a golden calf just came out (he said.) The background reminded me of the fireworks that will be shot off this weekend.

If you've seen any of my work with dragons you've probably noticed that they are not at all artsy. I photograph them for the record and need to capture certain field markings for positive ID. I took this shot of a Common Green Darner that just emerged from its watery environment, shed its cuticle and started his new life as an aerial acrobat. I'm still not sure if I like the B&W or the color shot so I'll post both. Constructive criticism on what I should have done or not have done will be helpful.
