Every year I volunteer as "official" photographer for our opera festival.
Out of the 500 or so frames I expose, one or two turn out well.

I agree the snarky comments were uncalled for. There often is healthy discussion and disagreement on these pages. Thankfully, most of it is civilized and constructive.

All the suggestions are good. But if you are interested in people pictures and atmosphere, go into the Kensington Market, just west of downtown. It is off the beaten tourist track but quite safe and welcoming with many great ethnic restaurants.
There are 4 Chinatowns but the main one on Dundas East is very bright and colourful at night.
In driving to Ottawa, detour away from the main route on the 401 which is just another busy freeway. Come up to my beautiful area of Muskoka (2 hours north of Toronto), stay overnight then take highway 69 to Ottawa through scenic Algonquin Park and several interesting small towns.

Why don't these greedy bastards realize that in 100 years nobody will be burning oil. Probably the people who mined coal and built steam engines in 1915 had the same short-sighted mindset. Wouldn't it be a smart long range business plan to get in on the ground floor of developing alternate energy...establishing a national network of electrical "gas" stations...researching then marketing new batteries...developing and marketing hydrogen...etc. etc.
They are making big big bucks now. But they no longer will exist in 2115 if they don't broaden their outlook.
Consider Kodak. It invented the digital camera but allowed itself to be driven to bankruptcy by the very device it created.

Here in Canada we're told that gas prices are going up while oil prices are going down because of the slump in the Canadian dollar. The drop in the dollar itself is because the oil glut has switched Alberta from boom to bust. Reminds one of increasing coffee prices... There always is a convenient frost in Brazil...
