When you go through security at the Airport. And your camera bag is you carry on. Do you open the bag our just send it closed?

When I flew less than one month ago, I just put it on the belt. on my way out they just looked at it in the scanner... when I came home, they opened it up... same stuff both ways. but you do not need to open it up for them.

I have been to the falls at least 50 times. Along the falls near table rock is my favorite, however, this time of year it is often extremely rainy in that location from the mist that the falls generate. You will have to let the mist dictate where you can shoot. The skylon is great spot, as well as the Marriott 14th floor room, and the Sheraton by the falls with a 400-600mm lens. Don't forget the fireworks that are shot each evening in the summer... For that the Sheraton makes a great place and a short lens to get it all... 50-75mm on your crop sensor. Just a couple of thoughts. http://www.pbase.com/nikonkelly/image/72551783 This is one of my favs from table rock.

I just went through this on my own in the past month. The asus 300 seemed to be a great little machine, bigger screen than I wanted but it had the USB 3 that I needed to transfer images to external hard drives... There in lay the problem. It took over an hour to transfer one of my D800 76meg files... Unrealistic. That would mean that to transfer the 1600 images from my 128gb card, that it would take More than 2 months. Yesterday, 24 hours after the problem reared its ugly head, while on location, I had to go to Best Buy and I found a small Lenovo with 8gb of ram, and can even run LR... Even though it is a bit small for that. Cost about $400 and now I have a full fledged computer and not a computer wannabe. I hope that this helps... I sure wish that I had known this before the salesperson got me to buy the chromebook.

I am attempting to research a new lower priced Laptop Computer, I am not a computer Wiz, not a Technical person, so I look to others that are more informed in the Computers and technical aspects of Photography.
My Son-in-Law suggested, as he understands my low level of technical knowledge, that I consider replacing my older model Gateway Laptop computer, running Vista, with a simple to use Chromebook Laptop.(many brands to choose from too.)
My concern is, as a Photography enthusiast, not a Pro by any means, I want to be able to run a simple to use but proficient "Photo-Editing" software program on any new Laptop I might purchase.
OK, Hedge-Hogs, now I turn to all of you for advice,.....Suggestions Please,.....Technical advice please,.....Help Please!
I have looked at "Acer", "Samsung" at a local Retail Store, in my price range, although, I currently do not know or understand details about the "Chromebook" Laptops.
I presently own and use a Nikon D3300 DSLR with the Nikon 18-55 DX VR II and the Nikon 55-200 DX VR II Lens.

Thank you in advance for your knowledgeable replies.

Dave, and what did you think that I missed? The absolute is that the TC that he bought will not fit his lens... I think that is already proven.

I bought a Nikon TC-20E III teleconverter for fitting on a Nikon AF-S Nikkor 55-300mm 1:4.5-5.6G lens. It won't fit. Am I missing something or should I just send it back?

The current series of TC14E, TC17E, and TC20E, teleconverters will only fit the Gold Ring lenses... there is a comparability list that has been provided in one of the posts above on this page of answers. You need to read that list, and if your lens is not listed, and it is not, it will not fit your lens. The list is provided to save people from being disappointed with their purchase. Every lens that will fit on these TC's are all fixed aperture and AF-s lenses, there are no exceptions to that statement.

Rready, I posted this the other day, but will do this again for you and for many others who will try their hand at fireworks this evening. I wrote this a couple of years ago, and anyone who uses this will get great images... it is tried and proven and I have won several awards with my images using this method. it is a document file, so just download it and open it in word and you should be good to go!

there is always smoke, but if the wind is strong enough, it will blow away and not be an issue... but it is there... always.

I will be shooting a fireworks show this weekend with my D7100. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Completely new to fireworks photography. Thanks

Adolph, here is a document that i wrote for some educational events and have used this for years. Fireworks are the easiest thing to shoot of all, it is nearly automatic. Also, please do not use a black card to shoot with. the reason, is that if anyone shines a bright light toward you, you will find the light will reflect off of the card and it will show up in your image... if you will follow these directions, you will have a great night and some award winning images... I included a couple of links to some images that I have shot in the document. have fun!

you have received a number of great replies... if you were shooting on land... but you are not. now I have have not read all of the replies, but using your short lens... not your long lens will work best for you unless you are over 3/4 of a mile from the launch site. if you are closer to the launch site than 1/4 mile, please find a new site as that is just too close. you will need to shoot at 1/60th sec or faster as the boats movement is going to cause blur... even if the water is like glass. shoot it wide open an pray that you have some good shots... quite frankly, you are doing things backwards to getting great shots... it could happen, but not likely. Sorry for all of the negatives, but you asked how to do this.

I recently purchased a Nikon D7200 and, due to circumstances, the evening of the 4th will be my first night shooting opportunity. I'll be in a boat shooting fireworks in Bar Harbor, Maine. I'd like some pointers on how to achieve superior images, please. My kit includes all Nikon lenses with AF and VR: 18-200mm, 70-300mm, 105mm, 35mm 1:1.8G, 18-55mm, 55-200mm. My first choice would be the 18-200 but will defer to recommendations from those of you who have experience shooting fireworks.

I use ziplock bags when I go to the falls... in the bottom of the bag... where the seam is I take a knife and make a slit along that seam in the middle which is about 1 inch shorter than the diameter of the lens. Next I pull that bag over the end of the lens, take black electrical tape and make two raps around the edge of the lens and the bag... if you use a 2 gallon bag, you can seal your camera inside of the bag and it will never get wet... and you can shoot through the open end and see your rear LCD as well... a very cheap raincoat for your camera.

thank you but no we were not in a helicopter. We were in the Marriott hotel just above the falls on the 14th floor shooting through very dirty windows, but as you most likely know if you are close enough to the widow crud it rarely effects the image! the other shots were from the ground level at and around the falls.

Lourdes, I have been to Niagara Falls nearly 100 times... there is very little there that surprises me from a photographic standpoint. I shoot with a full frame camera and typically use my 20-35 which would most closely align it self with your tokina 11-16. that would be my most used lens, but, if you are in a hotel that can see the falls, I have also used my 150-600 high up and done very well with it as well. here is a link to 4 of my galleries from March of 2015 two of the falls and two of things to do in the area... http://www.pbase.com/nikonkelly/niagara_falls_2015
hope this helps.

Nikon D3x, very low shutter count in for and normal service, told them about fog behind the menu lcd they said they they could take care of that no problem.

They cracked the lcd, the Fog is still there, paint is scraped down to metal on both sides of the menu screen opening, there are smudges on mirror they admitted cleaning, the mirror was perfect before they worked on it.

I know that you are very unhappy with Midwest, I get that. However, I have dealt with them for nearly 50 years... Since 1969... They are very good. That said, things can and do happen, and you have seen it first hand. There are two people by the name of Ray, one of them is the head honcho, and he will help you get this resolved. As one of the other responses states, don't talk to anyone else, the office ladies are seldome helpful, but Ray is and he usually comes in after 10 am if my memory serves me correctly. Please let us know how this turns out... I live about 75 mile away and use them when ever I have an issue.
