I am looking for a decent underwater camera, I am considering the Nikon W300 or the Olympus TG-5, does anyone have any pros or cons on these? Any recommendations?

Thanks
Jerry

go to the top of the page to the search section;put in w/p cameras and you should get many discussions on this subject,IT has been talked about many times. I have used a Nicon AW100 for about 5 years on many w/w rafting trips and ski trips and am happy with it but the Panasonis Lumix FT7 looks good and it has a viewfinder which the Nicon and the Olympus TG 5 does not have and was on sale for $300.00 last week.IT usually sells for $450.00.

devils Tower is worth it---so are the prairie dog colonies on the approaching roads (you will need that 300mm). Devil's Tower is best at sunrise or sunset, you need that directional light to make the grooves look more dramatic. Storms work well as background. Don't just take postcard shots and closeups , get the environment and perhaps the river for foreground. It is round and you can easily get completely around it, so you can always find a spot where the light is good. It looks great at night with stars above it (wide angle lens and tripod required)

There have been lots of prior discussions on the pros and cons of insuring your photo gear. This is not one of them. I do want to ask if others have had a huge increase in their insurance policy premium. The premium for my Personal Articles Policy from State Farm increased from $187. to $275. I find that outrageous. Does anyone care to comment if they have been affected as well? Is there another insurance company you would recommend? My thinking is that as equipment ages, their value would decrease, not increase. It does state inflation coverage applies so that may be a factor. Thank you.

Nice cars, but wait till you have to service one or make significant repairs. You just might wish you hadn't made the purchase.

if you can afford to buy one ;you are not going to worry about the cost to maintain it.

I have run the G/C 3 times and all 3 times I have had both a W/P camera and a good dlsr with me in a w/p case tied to the raft I have never had any problems. If I was going to buy another w/p camera I would go with the Pan.Lumix FT7 only because of the viewfinder;on any rafting trip or hike it is hard to take pictures in the daylight using only the lcd on the cameras. But I agree with you if this camera is being used only for this G/C trip that's the way I would go too.The 6 day motorized trip should be fun but you wont have a lot of time to do many side hikes witch to me was a great part of the trip that being said I hope you have a great trip;take a ton of pictures. The G/C is Beautiful place to see from the river and the rapids are like no other,Have Fun.

Valentines day. Reminds me of back in the early 50s while in the navy I was sent to the Great Lakes Navel station to machinist mate school. I used to spend my weekends in Chicago. I took that tour that took us to the many crime locations. One was the Valintines day mass murder. You could still see the bullet holes in the wall. I wonder if they still run that tour??

I don't know about the tour but part of the original wall is on display in the new mob museum located in Las Vegas.IF you get the chance to vist it do so it is well worth it.

I have looked at:
* Fundamentals of Photography by Joel Sardine of National Geographic.

Any suggestions?

Yosemite is very far from the coast of California. It would take several hours, about five I think as I recall, to get to Yosemite and the crowds in June would be overwhelming. I would not do this detour. I live an hour and one-half away from Yosemite and stay far away from it in June.

its about 200 miles from the coast hwy to Yosemite.
