A nice shot showing the antennae. I have just learned that not only do male midges/mozzies use their antennae as 'ears' they also use them to find a mate by sensing the the frequency of a female's wing beats. They can be fooled into being attracted by other sources of similar vibrations.

I did not know that about the detection of wing beat frequency. Thanks for the info.

Large Funnel Weaver spider. Body looked to be a little over 3/4 inch long. Probably family Agelenidae. The tarsus on the palps seem unusually developed even for a male.

Unknown to me.

Small moth. Just over one-fourth inch body length. Could not get a sharp overall shot because it's wings are held at an odd angle. Reminiscent of family Hesperiidae but the antenna are not hooked. The femur of the second leg has long scales.

Anyone know what it is?

1. Small Robber fly. Asilidae. About one-fourth inch long. Often seen this time of year perching on the ends of stems or leaves.

2. Nursery Web Spider. Pisaurina mira. Female. Close-up view of face showing all eight eyes. Body about three-eights of an inch long. The two right side front legs are missing. She still ran away swiftly when disturbed.

3. Top and side view of Moth. About one inch long. Dark gray from a distance.
