Similarly! If you were to shoot the image on an TV or computer monitor screen how do you set the white balance using the expodisk? Basically the expodisk doesn't work if the subject is the light source. The expodisk does an incident measurement.
There you go. Well said. I had the wrong answer, but the question is valid.
Nice! Glad you shared it.
Thanks, guys. Again, I don't use my Expodisc any more, but I wanted to test my theory about using it differently for sunsets. Melismus says I'm wrong and the reason makes sense, so I'm putting it to bed.

I nearly always use a waist-level or angle finder, so bend my head down when photographing. Would that be considered my style?
That's an interesting distinction. One can have a style for creating images, and those images might show a commonality that would be another form of style.
Thanks, but I'm looking for others who DO like cigars.

If you do, you will remove most or all of the red from the scene. Try it.
That's the problem; I don't remember when I last saw it!
I'm wondering if anyone out there enjoys cigars? Care to share your go-to, never fails cigar, whether it's your regular smoke or a special occasion indulgence?

I have not thought about the Expodisk in quite a while, until there was a recent thread hereabout it. It reminded me that I always wanted to test a theory I have, and if I happen across my Expodisk, I will. But while it's missing, let me ask what you folks think. You use the Expodisk by standing where your subject is, point the camera to where you will be shooting, and take a custom white balance. Fine--but what if you're shooting a sunrise or sunset? Would you not want to point the Expodisk toward the sun and set your WB?
One of life's deeper questions...

I tend to like closely cropped images, and I'm not shy about cutting off a forehead to emphasize the eyes when photographing people. Of course, some may hate that, but that's why it's MY style! 😎
My local store, Roberts Camera, will match the B&H price, but usually their prices are the same anyway. Personally, I prefer to patronize local small businesses.

I can see how helpful the Colorchecker would be for a RAW workflow. I'll be starting a thread about when and why I sometimes use RAW+JPEG--does the Colorchecker work well with a JPEG? I've never done much pp with JPEGs, other than cropping.

John, that's a beautiful shot and pose!
Does she realize that if she weighed 85 pounds she could probably be a world class nude model?? Just saying!!
For me, if she were thinner she would lose her appeal. I'm sure I'm in the minority, though
Thanks so much, everybody. Yes, I did give these and several others to the family!
