As part of my church, I go on a mission trips regularly, either out of country or to areas of our state as well as within our local county. I posted photos on UHH of my most recent trip to Haiti.
I want to look into the possibility of taking nice photos of people I come across who likely would never have a photo taken of themselves or their family due to circumstances.
Can you guys/gals give me a few options as to a "portable" printer that I could look at? Are there any that run on batteries? Are there some that would be considered "packable" even though you might need plug it in to power?
Just wondering about options here.
I use a Canon 60d if that makes a difference. And I am a newbie! Thanks!

Thank you Bob and Charmdragon for looking! Bob, that lemur was not yodeling, I tell you! The whole group of them were screaming almost painfully loud. Charmdragon, can you imagine walking along at night and your flashlight catching those eyes right in front of you? WOW! You're right!

Went out to the zoo cause I love animals and to get more practice. These were shot with my Canon 60d and 70-300. Major editing in LR4 on some of these cause, well, I obviously need more practice! The sun was really bright that day and made for really strong shadows.
Enjoy! And as always, thanks for all the C&C I've gotten before...these are some of the results of all that.

Sucking his thumb.

Shot through really dirty (and thick!) glass.

Gotta love these guys!

Heavy crop, have no clue what this is!

They're always beautiful!

This lemur was screaming, the whole gang was!

My, what big 'ole eyes you have!

Fortunate enough to have gone on several trips there. Such an interesting and beautiful place! Butterflies and hummingbirds are also incredible there!

I obviously own a camera ms know it all

Take it from a newbie here...you're getting some great advice here but the original question was the issue. There's way more involved in this stuff...I think that's all they're trying to say. See my post from earlier as to how I started out. I have no intention of being professional myself, but with the information I've gotten from here and advice from this group has in my opinion been priceless.
Go get yer equipment of whatever type you feel comfortable with and go for it. You'll have a great time!

Out of my interest in wanting better equipment, I wondered about the N vs. C...I've got professional photographer friends in both camps. Don't think you'll go wrong in either way and I ended up with the Canon 60d with the 18-135 kits lens. It's a great set up to learn with and I've added the 100 macro, a 70-300, and a Sigma 8-16.
I'm having a great time playing and learning and using the information on this site to challenge myself. I usually shoot everything on manual just to force myself to learn and I haven't had a class yet...and maybe my photos show that. Don't really care, cause I'm learning.
As a result, I'm gonna step up to some 'L' glass soon just because I can and I want to.
Go with some of that "popular," if that makes sense, equipment and i don't think you'll go wrong. The rest is just practice, practice, and more practice.

I've watched people taking pictures from the windows throughout whole flight with never a question. I think it's just those devices that actually "communicate" such as the cellphones, laptops, ipads, etc.
But I've always been curious about this - they restrict the use of those items "because they may interfere with flight equipment, etc." How is that different from the already ka-zillions of radio/wireless/satellite signals that are already going through the air?

Check the airlines...I think most allow for you to keep with you your carry on (the thinktank listed above?) AND a personal item, which can be a laptop/case. I know it means you're actually carrying around 2 pieces, but that might meet the need.

Well, I can't comment much either way, cause I'm still new at all this. I will say though that I've got a friend who is a professional photographer with her "big girl camera" as she refers to her Nikon...but the last few years, she has really focused on shooting with her iphone. She does some amazing stuff with the apps available, lots of artsy stuff, and has sold quite a few! Many have been on display in the capital building (Richmond, VA). Keep at it!

#2 is Coyote Squash -it grows on a climbing vine - you will be very surprised with it -most produce departments carry it - a very thin skin - hard white flesh - small thin flat seed - can be fixed any way one would fix zuccini - when cooked in a soup or stew it stays pretty firm- not much of a flavor but not too bland either.

Thanks CarlySue! And Harvey, I'm wondering if I ate any of that stuff. We had several haitian meals of soup/stew. Whatever I ate, it was all good!
Here's a few more...

The little conk inside that shell? Yeah, it was good!

Something was on his mind...

All over the place...

Thanks everyone! I really found myself enjoying photographing people. Took my time, learned a lot I think about the camera, shot lots at different settings. Here's a few more for ya! Thanks again!

Our group was 'shopping' and these guys were watching.

Yes. That's dogs and pigs playing.

Roosters crow VERY early in Haiti. He'd better run!

And, there are wild turkeys there too!

Now, where'd I leave my shoes?

mrova, you caught some great expressions on their faces! My favorites are the first two and last two you posted. You should continue working on "street photography" because you have a real good knack for it! I enjoyed them a lot.

Lucas, thanks for that. I wanted to get faces, so I really appreciate the comment. And I found I really did enjoy focusing on faces like these. Here's a few more...

Helping with crafts, shot in very, very low light.

Shot through a screen door, very early morning.

Another Restavek, got kicked out, group I was with took her in and is paying for her to go back to school for the first time in years.

Love this shot, I think it says so very much. Very low light.

Great shots, one has to be to have been there to feel people, and know what how they can feel so good about life.

Haiti is such a beautiful country, but over the years has been so torn apart and destroyed...the earthquake was bad enough, but that just added to so much already destroyed.
We saw so much happiness among many - adults and children - but we also saw lots of hopelessness.

"Merci Jesus" painted over the doorway.

One of the many Restaveks (child slaves) we worked with.

What. A. Smile. (another Restavek)
