What do you think of HDR processing? Have you tried it?

For my part, so many that try HDR over process the images and get garish results. Believing that their enhancements are cool, what they produce is an image that is cartoonish with very unrealistic colors. Something that looks nothing like reality.

One Pro who teaches great HDR techniques, has "fantastic images," and has great software (Aurora HDR), which he helped develop, is Trey Ratcliff. Born and raised in the US, he and his family moved to the "down under" part of the globe. See his work at:

I am still learning this HDR thing and have not yet produced and "great" images, but I am improving and will continue to work it.

Enjoy

Here is my contribution to boat pictures. This tired war horse saw lots of hard seasons. Canon 5D w/ 28-135, no cropping. Taken on the Olympic Peninsula with Canada in the background.

So hard to find bees still enough to get good photos like this. I ask them to stay still, but they don't listen. LOL

Thanks. Butterfly shot with Canon 5D using standard 28-138 lens. I was born in Wmspt, PA and miss the hills, but not the cold.

I have 15 TB of hard drive space for the thousands of photographs and user videos I have. I have had 3 large Seagate crashes and a LaCie crash over the years. I switched to G-Drives through the suggestion of several pro photographers who have world-wide reputations. Couldn't be happier. Got mine through Amazon.

I like my Tamron 150-600, but if you are hiking any distance, it's weight will get to you. Still, its images are great. And i use a 1.6 extender and still get great images.

I never noticed before. The picture of the "Mitten" on the left of John Wayne was taken from the other side and merged with the picture of the right "Mitten" for a composite photo. The thumbs of the mittens actually face each other, but not in the Movie picture.

Interstate 5 thru Portland, Tacoma and Seattle is a parking lot on steroids. The best times to drive those areas are 2 to 5 AM. Or if you have to drive through there during the day, do so after about 10:30 AM and before 2:30 PM. It took me about 4 hours last summer to travel from just above Seattle and get below Tacoma. Thru Portland during work traffic can take 3 hours or more. The same with Seattle. And Seattle has a lot of road work going on on the Interstate and even on 405. Driving the Oregon / Washington coast on 101 is a bit taxing with a motor home or travel trailer since the road weaves around hill sides and rock out croppings. Avg speed on 101 might be 30 to 45 mph or even lower in some areas. BUT it is extremely beautiful. I highly recommend 101 West out of Olympia and then North to go out to the Olympic Peninsula on the East side. Port Townsend is a beautiful town with turn-of-the-century homes. 101 goes completely around the Peninsula and the West coast of it is a Rain Forrest with 140 to 200 in per year. Forks, Wa is the filming location of the Twilight Saga movies. Neat little town. Just west of Classet, WA out on the point is the most western point of land on the lower 48 states. DO be certain to drive up into the Olympic National Park out of Port Angeles. The mountains are breathtaking. Expect to see deer at the top of the mountain walking thru the parking lot at the visitor's center. Have Fun. My wife and I will be out there in mid July. We travel for 2 months every year in my truck and always go to the Peninsula.
