the first picture must be iso 200 not 3200 ????? at 1/ 400 sec

The first pic is ISO 800, the second is definitely 1/400, ISO 3200, as it was taken at dusk.

If you download and look at the metadata you will see the settings

This is a rarity for us. It belongs in the southern US at the moment, and even in summer does not normally venture this far north. To see it in the middle of winter is extraordinary, but it has been delighting local birders for a week or two now. It likes lurking in the undergrowth, but comes out to feed on the seed and mealworms that birders have been providing for it.

Great detail, backlighting or not

The obvious answer is because they're there.

I got these shots a couple of hours ago while it was still somewhat foggy. The soft light appealed to me but still allowed some contrast and feather detail. I think the light color of our house reflects on the birds to keep the "shady side" a little brighter.

Super shots

At dusk today with the Tamron all at 600mm, handheld, and all heavily cropped. Most wide open with too high ISO's in most of them, but by the time I figured out my settings the light was gone :(

In #4 you can see the mud on the Pelican's bill from diving into the shallow waters of the mud flats

Yeah! That's some good pics

I especially like #3 hovering above the water.

D7100/Tamron 150-600mm.

It was another dull, rainy afternoon, & with little better to do, I spent a little time at the beach. The fishing boat had completely disappeared in the trough only seconds before. Downloading is recommended.

Those are all so very interesting shots. The first guy, confident, spot on focus, then his wipe out in the second shot. And forth shot, man what rolling seas!

Great set
