Excellent shots, particularly in view of your having to shoot through a tinted glass window. The handiest reference book I have found is BIRDS OF EASTERN AND CENTRAL NORTH AMERICA (one of the PETERSON FIELD GUIDE series) based on your location as stated with your avatar. It is available in soft back or hard back.

Have a nice weekend!

Bob

Thanks for book recommendation and your kind and supportive comments  I appreciate it!

Nice robin portraits!

Some advice:
Avoid sharpening the out of focus (blurred) areas to prevent the ugly fuzziness you can see in your backgrounds. Instead, do localized sharpening - only the in focus areas, especially the subject were it matters most. This will also result in the subject popping out better from the now softer, visually less intrusive background. Basically, avoid global sharpening, and use the effects brush tool in your editor for local sharpening.

thank you for the advice, I think I'll try that. I usually global sharpen, then if I feel up to it, which I didn't in theses shots, I'll reduce the background noise with a brush. That is pain in the you know what...so I usually just leave it.

One thing that you might be seeing also, which compounds the busy, noisy background it the effect of the lens. I think it's the VC stabilization control on the Tamron that gives the backgound a "unique" look. These are all hand held to the lens is really working hard to stabilize.

Not sure who this guy is, can anyone identify for me? I just started shooting birds, so I'm not sure what's what.

Caught this guy outside my family room window, and captured these shots though the window (which has a blue UV coating), so sharpness and quality might not quite be there. But good enough for me ;)

All at 600mm with Tamron 150-600mm and heavily cropped.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks! Hard to keep still and the VR jumps around a bit making it a bit more of a challenge

These are really nice. The more images i see from this lens the more I cannot wait to get one for myself.

Thanks, there is definitely a learning curve with the lens, but the keepers are well worth it!

All at 600mm handheld. I'm happy with the noise even at 1600 ISO in the first two shots and the last one. DL for best results.

You're darn tootin' I am! It took a while to get used to, but I'm learning more as time goes on.

Thanks for the encouragement
