Boy Petri was a big seller in the late 50s and early 60s. They were good cameras I wonder why they failed.

I was 12 (1954) and visiting Chicago. My uncle gave me this old camera he liberated from a dead German. It as an early Leica. It had a screw mount and a 35 and a 90 (I think) telephoto. Should have kept it!

I would urge you to get the T3i and learn and grow with it. The Lumix does not have the versatility of a DSLR. It is a glorified point and shoot, and a mirrorless viewfinder does not give one the intimacy of a mirror view finder. It is like looking at things via a tv camera rather than in person. also, lens selection is limited w/lumix

That explains the blue line around the white bird. The bird was standing in front of a dark background.

I think the washed out green is a matter of lens aperture and speed. I am going to use a polarizing filter and see what happens.

Sensors are really different from film.

Thanks for all the help.

I have finally begun to shoot again something other than family pics.

Problems:

1. Greens are washed out to almost white

2. Thin blue line surrounding white objects such as Ibis.

Have shot on aperture value and on full auto. aperture usually at 4.5 and speed of sensor set at ISO400.

Shooting with T1i and using a Phoenix 19/35 zoon with a 2x extender.

Thinking of going back to my Leica CL.....

what am i doing wrong?

My first camera in Nam was a speed graphic issued by the US Army. It was kinda neat, hunkered down in my hole, popping up getting a shot and back in the hole with pot back on my head. But, then again that was in the days of MACV. Later was issued a Leica, got more action shots because of the situation, but still miss the speed graphic!

Have you tried contacting B&H, Adorama or KEH and letting them know about your quest. They just may know someone...

There really is no replacement for a big negative. Also, you take real time getting a picture with a 4X5. One doesn't seem to be in such a rush. With digital, you can shoot and shoot and out of all that mess probably get a good picture or two. With a 4X5 you shoot less but get more!

Aside from professional pp, the photographer is probably using a 4X5 camera. Most likely Hasselblad with a digital back at a cost of somewhere around $50K with studio lights etc. The photographer is probably using a light meter and balancing the exposure over the entire range of readings taken on the face and eyes.

The Photographer probably spent hours posing and shooting the subject.

This is big business and the price for this kind of shooting is very expensive. As mentioned, over $1 Billion in billing per year.

If you really want to get into this kind of work, intern at a high fashion shooting gallery.
