Winning the lottery gives one money not smarts. Truly smart people usually already know how to make money. A smart person who wins a substantial amount of money will probably figure out how to either make it last or how to make it make more money. A not so smart person will probably just end up blowing the money on ridiculous stuff and end up broke. Sucks to be them...

I'm not thinking about the big prize, odds are way to high of winning that one. I'd be quite happy with one of the lesser prizes like maybe one million dollars. Not enough to make a fuss about but plenty to supplement my pension so I may retire and spend more time stalking small animals, with my camera, in the woods. The big prize would just make life too complicated. But if I do win, I won't turn it down...

Not wanting to drive in to Philadelphia ( i hate city driving ) I drove about an hour to a little camera shop. No idea what I bought, but a month later I went back and he was gone, They had been in the same spot for 30 years .....

then I found another shop about 15 miles from the house. I stopped in, they had everything you could want EXCEPT customer service. Very rude people, answered questions but made it seem like I was bothering them. The place was junky looking , looked like it was painted 50 years ago, dingy light bulbs hanging from the ceiling.

Ive since found Allens Camera in Levittown Pa. I asked them way too many questions , looked at way too much stuff, then asked a lot more questions, I bought something that was $199. and they took the time to show me a few things about it . Next trip I bought a replacement part for my tripod, I bulked at the $50.00 price, the guy says wait a minute, goes in he back brings out the same part by a different company. It fit and was $35.00 service Way above what I would have expected. ( just dont go on the weekend way too busy for them to spend a lot of time with you)

I remember the local camera shop I bought my first 35MM SLR at, and my second and my third, a Minolta then 2 Canon’s. They carried several brands like Canon and Nikon and Minolta and Konica. This was back in the 70’s and 80’s before the advent of digital photography. Then things began to change. The last true multi brand shop in my area went away a few years ago and the only shops I know of carry either Canon exclusively or a mix of mainly Nikon and a few Sony models. I don’t think I’ve purchased a camera body in a shop in probably 5 or 6 years now. I liked going into a store and actually holding a piece of equipment in my hands before I purchased it. I liked comparing similar models from different manufacturers. You have to go into the big city to do that now. Just like digital has changed the way we take pictures, it has changed the way we buy gear also.

Is your model a he or a she? I don't know whether to so how pretty or how handsome. Either way, good looking model. Reminds me of one of my favorite, yet usually uncooperative models, my (Maltese) little girl, Angel Bear.

Sunday 1/10 was the last day for the 2015 Christmas exhibit at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. The wife and I were there for the last hours and here are a few photo's we got before the lights went out.

Thank you. Does your older Tamron have the VC feature. You can still purchase new for approx. one half the price the older model lens lacking the VC feature but I don't think I want to head down that road as I am getting a little long in the tooth and a tad shaky. I guess that I need all the help I can get in the hold the camera steady dep't.

It's the model A009 DI VC USD. It cost around $1400 new 4 years ago. I've taken thousands of photos with this lens and even though I've since acquired the Canon L equivalent, I still use it often. It's got great bokeh and it's quite rugged. In my opinion, it's the best zoom lens Tamron makes. As for VC or VR or IS, probably one of the greatest innovation to photography; of the lenses I use often, only 2 don't have image stabilization.

I was out hiking thru a local wetland park and a couple duckies, or should I say, a duckie couple, took to the air.

Garry,
I have a Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8 zoom lens and a Tamron SP 70-200 f/2.8 zoom lens. The Canon lens is probably a best in class or as close to a best in class as you can get. It is a phenomenal zoom lens. The Tamron is not as good as the Canon but, it's pretty darn close. Sure the Canon focuses faster, it also costs about $1000 more than the Tamron. I bought the Tamron a few years ago when they first came out with it and was very pleased. I picked up the Canon because I got a really good deal on it and unfortunately, have a thing for Canon L lenses, but, I still use the Tamron quite often, because it's a darn good lens and probably the best buy for the money. If you can't afford the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8, spend your hard earned cash wisely and get the Tamron SP 70-200 f/2.8, you won't be sorry.

Unnecessary ...

I'm sorry, you may have misunderstood. I'm not dissing Nikon body's; I've got nothing against Nikon, I like Nikon gear, just don't currently own any. The term crappy goes hand in hand with the term turd. The camera maker most mentioned was Nikon. I'm just curious to how one can call a Canon L lens a TURD and make no actual reference to actually owning one, so maybe not necessary, just curious.

I have the Sigma 150-600S and the Sigma 1.4 extender made for that lens and they work great together on my 7DII. I'm not sure what the compatibility issue memo is all about but I'm assuming it pre-dates the 150-600S lens.

The square ones require a holder that mounts to the front of your lens, or you could just hold it there but that probably is not what you want to do. I have an older Cokin set up but I now use a circular graduated ND filter, just easier to use.
