Now that is a good question.

Unless we are talking about framed 20x30 glossies of resolution charts, all of this kind of s--t is really ridiculous.

Thank you for asking this question! I have been struggling a little with my old DSLR (Nikon D5000) and desperately want to upgrade, but I also want new glass, as I have a limited selection (kit lenses that I never use and a few prime lenses). Why can't I just have unlimited funds to upgrade both??? ;-)

I'm so happy with my discontinued Sony a57 with a Sony 70-300 APO G lens, That I could cry.

I keep reading on this forum that when faced with the choice of upgrading camera or lens most suggestions have been go for the glass. Here is my question: Within reason, can high priced glass be too good for a camera and at some point the camera has to be upgraded to get the befits from the glass? Within reason of course. Example, is there glass that is too good to put on a Nikon D5500. Not sure I'm asking this correctly.
Thanks!

Any top quality lens deserves a top quality sensor, no matter the brand: Just as no quality sensor should be coupled to an inferior lens. The lens on my Canon SX150is back-up camera is capable of producing beautiful prints up to 40x50 inches in size but the sensor is noisy at all ISO levels. This will limit me to prints of no larger than 8X10. Combining a "G" lens and a full frame $2,000 plus body will enable the user to produce prints that could cover an 8x16 foot wall. I believe that, when all is considered, the optics are the most important factor in photography.

I had to use slower shutter speeds than I normally use, but I may never get another chance to get shots like these. There were 3 babies seen together.

So what could possibly be the advantage of doing that?

Well, I'm glad that you asked. In the instance of the photo of the Hummingbird, I think that it made it appear to be a water color painting. I also think that some interesting portraits could be possible as well.

Some interesting results may be obtained if you purposely shoot where high sensor noise levels occur. This one was shot at ISO 6400 on my Sony A57 and then denoised. a bit of additional PP was applied.

I'm surprised no one got the exact wording right to the elements of photographic excellence.

You seem to have left out "personal preference".

We should all be ashamed of replying to this idiotic topic.

A while back on the news, they did a story about a photograph of a potato that fetched over $1,000,000 at auction. Can someone tell me what is so interesting about a potato that it could get that kind of a price? LOL!

It, reportedly, was able to recite the Gettysburg Address but no study was done to support that claim.

That might be true if this were not a photography forum. People are here to learn, not admire.

A bit harsh but I'm sure that you feel much better after making that comment.

Shot at a high ISO and then denoised. It came out looking a bit like a water color painting, I'm thinking.

It begins with whether or not it was taken by me.
