Friday morning, the County Fair is going to open with a "cattle drive" down Main Street.
Rodeo trained cattle, plus real cowhands, probably cattle dogs.

It will be crowded but I am looking for any suggestions on how to approach this opportunity.
I have a Canon 7D Mark II, wide angle and a 70-200mm lens, I am taking with a Canon M3 as a backup with a 50mm lens.
I can make a couple of locations in the 45 minute drive, just looking for ideas on how to approach this.

Thanks for your suggestions,

I'd look for a decent spot with an elevated position where you can see everything and be above most heads in the crowd.

I use one which attaches by the tripod screw and has calibrations and precise movements along 2 axes. Knurled knobs allow fine movements in front-back and left-right directions and tightening screws lock the positions. Worked fine with Nikon D600 with a nikkor 105 lens. Should be okay for lighter set-ups too. I got it from ebay a couple of years ago and is working well. Cost me ~30 dollars or so.

What brand is it and where can you get it?

Hello everyone, I am curious of how to price my photos. I've taken into account of the cost of Photo media and ink, but how do I put a price tag on what the photo is worth? Do I go by how long it took me to get the photo, or what extent I went to for the shot? A few years ago I sold two photos for $800.00 Matted and framed. But that was an offer from the customer. I did not set the price. So if you sell your work, Please help me out with any suggestions on how to do this. Thank You.

A friend of mine back in the late 80's or early 90's used a formula where he took the cost and doubled it, then doubled it again and then added on the cost. It sounds odd but it worked well for him and ha made a lot of sales. I guess it would allow you to have a 50% off sale and still make out OK.

Probably been debated before but it keeps coming up in my circle of pro/semi-pro/enthusiast/wannabe friends.

My answer leans toward A) or B)

"B & C" I feel to be considered as a Professional Photographer the person would need to have a business license and should be making all or most of their income (50%+) from paid photography jobs. I would still consider a photographer to be a Professional even if he/she is retired from the business and no longer shoots for a living since their professional knowledge and skills are still there.

Ok, I am very much a novice here, and I have more “camera” than I have experience / Nikon 7200. I take casual pictures for fun, and like to have larger prints made when I have a favorite picture.

I would like to find a post processing tool that is easy to learn, and will do the basics that I want. That is, to crop pictures, adjust color, re-sizing, embed titles on selected pictures, adjust contrast. I doubt that I will ever get into layers and those more fancy things. I very specifically do NOT want a program to organize or take control over pictures. So, maybe once a month I would want to improve the appearance of an image, or change the size, or add a title.

I can confess that I do know enough to know the obvious benefits of producing raw images, which allows more control in PP. That is one thing that I love about the 7200… I have one card saving regular .jpg’s, and the other saves them in raw for that special image that comes along once in a while.

I do have Photoshop Elements. I will admit that I have not spent much time with it, but I can say that I don’t find it intuitive.

So, here is my question. I am thinking about getting Light Room . My specific question is how do Elements and Light Room compare, in terms of doing the tasks that I want, and in terms of ease of use / learning curve ? Am I better off to spend some more time with Elements, or am I better off to try Light Room ?

Your thoughts and experience will be greatly appreciated !!

James

You might want to take a look at "ON1 Photo RAW 2017.5". With it you can go as simple or as complex as you want with your photos, and they have a 30 day free trial. Recently I have also heard that Topaz now offers a Topaz Suite that has pretty much all the basics and is free. They have more advanced modules or features that you ca buy to add on if you want, and if you have any Topaz plugins already installed it should recognize them too.

I downloaded Photoshop CS2 because it was free and because I am new to--- Photoshop anything. I thought I would try learning some of the basic things and then if I felt capable I would purchase the Photoshop CC package.
When I was using the patch tool to remove some unwanted tree branches from a clear blue sky background, the best I can get is a grey blurry blob where the branches were. Two questions:
1. It that as good as CS2 is, or am I doing something wrong?
2. Is the Photoshop CC that much improved from the CS2? In which case I will quit wasting my time trying to get the results I want from a program that I instead need to update.
I am thankful for any advice you have to share with me.

It's been a long time since I last used Photoshop CS2 and I don't think it had content aware fill available. You would probably have much better success with the clone tool.

There have been any number of conversations regarding Topaz Studio. One aspect of the program that I have not seen addressed is the plug-ins that came with my download. I have included a snapshot of the drop-down list of plug-ins that are available to me. I'm curious if everybody has access to these plug-ins or am I getting them because I have purchased the plug-ins for Photoshop and Lightroom. and therefore, they are automatically being installed in Topaz Studio.

I tried the free Topaz Studio and it shows any plug-ins that you already had installed for Photoshop and Lightroom. It detects them when you install the Studio.

My question is this. While I love PS cc I don't really need it. I am thinking of getting Affinity but I have one question. In Ps I can make a pic with several of the same person in one photo. Its called Multiplicity. Can this be down in Affinity.

Thanx

All you need to do is take multiple shots with the subject placed in the different positions where you want them to be in the finished picture, then load them as layers and blend them using layer masks.

To clarify my problem ( I wasn't clear in my original post )... the copyright info can not be found in the data files associated with the pictures except in AfterShot Pro 3

I don't use AfterShot Pro 3, but if you mean the data is stored in sidecar (xmp) files, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't show in other software. I have a number of editing programs that use sidecar files but they can't read the files created by a different one. If you export a finished image I would expect the data to be written into the exported file and then it should show in other editors when you open it..

Thanks for all the answers they really helped.

If the problem is not enough light you can shine a flashlight on the subject so the lens can lock on the focus then turn off the flashlight and take the shot. I carry a small LED flashlight in my camera bag just in case I need it for situations where i need the extra light.

I think Photoshop Elements 15 would be a pretty good choice for you or Paint Shop Pro. Elements has different modes you can run it in with like Quick Fix and Guided edit with step by step help, and after you gain more experience it has an advanced editor mode more like Photoshop. The price is pretty good to if you shop around. I bought Photoshop Elements 15 for $45.

Luke

I always shoot RAW and do all my editing only on the keepers using post processing software such as Photoshop CS6, Lightroom 5.7, Paint Shop Pro X8, Affinity, Elements 15 or ON1 Photo RAW 2017.

Looking for a quality flash for my Nikon D3300, Nikon Flashes seem to be quite pricey.
Anyone experience the Altura Flash for Nikon D3300?

I have an "Altura Pro AP-N1001" and also a "Vivitar 583 for Nikon (DF-583)" and they both work great on my D3100, my D7100 and a D7200. I feel both are are bery good and offer a considerable savings over buying an actual Nikon Flash.
