There are a lot of nice takes on your OP, so I am including mine... took a slightly different tack.

Blown out sky was darkened and actually took a lot of color out so it is now textured and less distracting.

Also took some of the yellow out of the grass, added a bit of fill and warmth to your faces.

Not a lot of change, but some subtle shifts with Viveza 2

Very ice jdubu. Thanks

A friend took this photo of me and my son after one of his games. I like the picture, but I think the sky is blown out. All I have is the free Picasa for PP and I wasn't able to do anything with it.

Just new to this myself, but had a go.
See if this is better!

Not sure what you are looking for there is only so much you can do with that sky... There are people here that are a lot better at this than I am I do these as a learning challenge.

No need to put in an artificial sky, the one you have has plenty of interest. Just need to isolate it and work on it a bit. I used PSE9, isolating the sky using thresholds, adjust color and light, and added a gradient blue-grey layer. See how you like it. Didn't do anything else to the picture.

Very nice...thanks mdeman.

I assume you were asking others to post your photo with their editing attempts, so I will post mine as well.

I used CS5. Isolated you and your son, inverted, worked on sky with selective color (white) then inverted again and increased contrast and brightness on you and your son.

Thank you Wendy.

I used Photoshop, Topaz Remask, Inserted a new clowd layer, saved as a jPEG, back into the bridge in photoshop for vinyetting. Fun little project.

Good shooting

Here's my take on 3 different pics I played with and added a different sky...less than 10 seconds apiece... here's a link to a video I did on how I do it if you get Elements...

Using CS5, I did a Color Select of the different colors of the sky. This gave me a selection of the sky, but it also makes selections in the actual picture. I removed the selections that I didn't want in the picture and it gave me a selection of the colors in the sky only. I then made brightness and contrast adjustments. While the sky was selected, I made a neutral density filter of the sky only. I also used an unsharp mask to sharpen the picture and a few other tweaks. It's the best I could do.

Thanks rgs65...and thanks to everyone who answered the call for assistance. Much appreciated.
