Some really nice shots here.

I grew an eclectic mix of about 200 different roses up until just a few years ago and I still love them. As I aged, the physical requirements exceeded my pleasure in growing them.

ELINA-an old favorite of mine.

GEMINI-a frequent winner at rose shows.

GRACE-My favorite English rose.

Absolutely awesome photos...so many locations...so many different ways to see them...all good!.

I am inclined to view things up close...old eyes can't see far.

Go to your manual...look up metering...select "spot metering". This will tell your camera what you want it to focus on. Until you are really comfortable with your results, place the item you want in focus in the middle of your monitor or viewfinder. Your camera IS FOCUSING on something in each shot...it appears to be that you haven't defined what you want to be in focus. Tell it what you want and you'll be surprised how good it does.
Reply is to Nivek340

The Sony DSC series all take wonderful photos. I have owned two and neither has ever disappointed.

Your nicely backlit shot would not have been possible if you had followed the 'RULES'..."...always keep the sun at your back".

Thanks for violating it and capturing a fine photo!
The interest preceded me! Very nice photos!

Lovely photos!

Hiking sure broadens your source of subjects.

Enjoy yourself!

Reply to MWAC.

Beautiful bloom. Resembles one I used to grow named "Scentimental".

Mom's with cameras usually have ample subjects.

How refreshing. No rules photography!!! Just take the photo of the subject you like, composed how you like, from the angle you like, and under the lighting you like.
Hmmm. Sounds like stress free photography to me. That's the way I like it.
Oh and Bob. I love the shots. Well done and welcome to the forum.

Thanks for your comments!

I agree that photography should be stress-free and fun!

Bob... I loved your preface. I also don't follow the 'rule' of thirds. I really like the term guideline. I think the 'thirds' concept works great for landscapes but not for everything.

Outstanding images, I particularly liked #3.

John, appreciate your comments and your photos! Until just recently, I maintained a butterfly garden and the Passion Flower was a host plant for the Gulf Frittilary. Even though they are rare up here, I included one in my garden. Thanks,

Bob

Hello Bob those are great, and you are right about no rules to photography..see some of mine.

Rob, thanks for the replies! Every time I visit an upscale nursery in my area I am drawn to their orchid displays...extremely beautiful and interesting plants. Nice photos...and pets.
