While hiking early in the morning in zion we came across this waterfall--took a few shots and hiked on down the trail waitinf for the sun to get higherto eliminate the shadows from the surrounding peaks

this was on the way back--decided I liked the one with the shadow better!

took this at my brotheres wedding--it was a beauriful church and I liked the shadows coming from the windows in the ceiling

I have posted this shadwow before. Taken in New Oleans behind St Louis Cathedral. Before HDR I took the picture at night, the halogen lights were too bright so I took the statue the next day then copy and pasted it to the night picture. David

WOW this is very nice

Hi Everyone,

I haven't been around very much the last few days. Have been extremely busy and a little under the weather. It is 11:38 here so I am still on time. At least on my time. :lol: I since the starting day of this challenge is Ground Hog's Day what better topic then shadows. We had one nice day this week and then it began raining and snowing so there has not been much sunshine. Couldn't get any really good shots but this is what I came up with. Can't wait to see your shots.

I like the idea of shadows Perilin. It's been snowing all day here so no new shadows. I decided to post my old favorite.

My goodness where has the weekend gone---27 pages I will need to catch up on! My favorite shadow is the one my Elvis impersonator friend makes while he is performing. I will post this now before I run off to a dart tournament to be played before the Super Bowl and will catch up later.

almost looks like he has wings--there was a palm tree on stage and this is a shadow from one of the leaves!

Awesome photos everyone. Seems as my second home has been the hospital lately. Scared the hell out of my wife, almost died from one of these damn seizures I keep getting. I flat lined for about three minutes this time. I figure I have five lives left I have spent four of them already. Died four times and came back. I told my wife.... Its because I'm too bad for hell and can't climb the gate to heaven. I got kicked out of hell for selling ice water! Anyway, I'm good and about to get out tomorrow to get some photos in.

This communicates what gives me solace on many levels. I find still, reflective water does wonders for me. Being still and reflective myself helps me calm my soul. This is a water color painting, and painting gives me joy and peace. Of course, I photographed this, and photography gives me solace. And the title, still water, is an allusion to Psalm 23, which along with many precious scriptures me peace that passes understanding. And the Good Shepherd, who leads me besides still waters, and to the sea of crystal, calls me to be still and know that He is God. Here is great old hymn by Katharina Von Schlegel, translted by Jane L. Borthwick:

Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side.
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change, He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heavenly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake
To guide the future, as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
His voice Who ruled them while He dwelt below.

Be still, my soul: when dearest friends depart,
And all is darkened in the vale of tears,
Then shalt thou better know His love, His heart,
Who comes to soothe thy sorrow and thy fears.
Be still, my soul: thy Jesus can repay
From His own fullness all He takes away.

Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord.
When disappointment, grief and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past
All safe and blessèd we shall meet at last.

Be still, my soul: begin the song of praise
On earth, believing, to Thy Lord on high;
Acknowledge Him in all thy words and ways,
So shall He view thee with a well pleased eye.
Be still, my soul: the Sun of life divine
Through passing clouds shall but more brightly shine
This communicates what gives me solace on many lev... (show quote)
