I guess you assume that a smaller camera is "lesser".

That's not necessarily the case.

Nope... Never said that or assumed that. My smaller camera is a great machine. I love it. That's why I use it so much. I will match shots against my Larger Cameras any day. There are some Features like Auto FP that are not available on this body if I don't need them for a particular project. I don't need to lugem around with me. If your trying to tell me bigger ain't always better, I agree. The exception may be sensors. Bigger sensor will render better pictures/more data, long as you do it right. That's just physics. It's hard to change the laws of Physics :) Have a great day. Happy Shooting.

Keeping it light and simple is great. But the camera on a wrist strap and no bag - I don't think I'd like that very much over a long period. You don't get to rest your hand unless you put the camera down somewhere, which isn't always practical. I prefer to keep my camera slung over my shoulder; it takes only seconds to get the camera into action if I see something interesting, and I won't have to deal with possible neck pain or hand fatigue.

Different strokes for different folks. If I ain't gonna switch a lens of any other add on's like a flash. my dust brush, clean cloth and mini tripod fit in my pocket. The set up I showed weighs next to nothing. I can dangle it off the strap on one finger. My hand rarely needs to rest. I do agree setting in down is not always a good idea but I can hang it on my belt if I don't have someone around to hold it while I use both hands when needed. Hanging it around my neck all day having it sway and eventually being a pain in the neck, is just annoying to me. So what ever floats your boat is ok. I just posted this as a method I use. It ain't for everyone. Plus it gave a chance to show off that picture I took :) I'm just having fun. TY for your interest.

How I Travel Light:
Sometimes I don’t want to carry heavy. I leave my Nikon D300s and D600 at home.
I carry my D5100 with the newest version of the kit lens (18-55 VR Nikkor G II) and use my SB400 instead My Heavy SB 700 or 600.
I can carry this all day and not get tired from lugging that extra weight.
I really like this newer version of the Kit lens mostly because it allows me to focus down to around 6 inches for when I want to shoot close. I also came up with a simple way to use a bounce card on my SB400 using cut outs of some glossy photo paper which fits nicely when you tilt the swivel head up to bounce position. I no longer use a neck strap (so no pain in the neck). I use wrist straps. The one here is inexpensive and simple, is comfortable and works well. I rarely carry a bag, if I do I can keep it small and light because of the size of this equipment. I am out to shoot pictures so not having the camera in my hand would cause me to miss shots. Sometimes I will switch out the lens for my Sigma 18-200 (no vibration reduction) lens (keeps it light and has a small footprint) and sharp as a tac.
I miss some of the features on my Larger Camera’s (like Auto FP, speed, etc.) but I am on a walk about not a specific shooting project of event. So it works out just fine and I can bring home some nice pics.
Also, the D5100 makes it real easy to slip in a video clip should something cool happens. Anyways, just something I thought I would share.

That is very nice of you Frankie, much appreciated. To be realistic though, I know we'll never be in your neck of the woods again. If we ever get back to the States, (all comes down to economy), we would go see places we haven't seen before. Would love to explore Wyoming and Colorado. Likewise, if you ever get down under, come see us. Jude.

I hate realistic :( I do understand that though. Wyoming... you will get the best Chile con Queso In Rock Springs. In Colorado drive the Arapaho trail through the mountains But Stop at the Super K for a Donut.
Prolly won't ever get Down Under.. I have economy too it just needs a little help from the lottery. I will have to do my walk about here and will keep looking for Matilda :) Have a great day.. Actually am off for a Walk About today.

Please can some give me a simple way to take a photo in LR and export it to a file on my desktop but smaller? Sounds like an easy thing doesn't it? Hummmm

really good question.. In LR under export there are to controls/choices on the export panel:
a Slide bar - to adjust quality
a check box - to limit size to 100k
think that will work...must admit have not tried it yet.
I usually save out the large file then Resize the Jpg.
I am assuming you are working with RAW files (prolly makes no difference). Have a nice day :)

NOTHIN :) Great Light Catch in the eyes. Exposure it really good. Maybe subject could be a little higher in the frame but that's just being picky :)

You know.. I just read some of the other comments.
heay... Listen It's an informal portrait. Those text book studio rules don't apply and shouldn't. It's a great shot. Like it ain't gonna hang in the white house.. (yet) But it could be a magazine cover.

OK remember it was an exercise for me in LR. I was only working on technique. I also had a specific need for the monochrome. thanks.

Great shots good composition. A flash or a Reflector card will help get rid of the ones with harsh shadows. Instead of shooting in color then de-saturating try shooting in B&W. The densitometry/curve shapes are a little different. Looking at your work you have a great eye for composition. Wish I did :( ty.
