wow, wow, wow! It always seems that the day after an ice storm is always beautifal! Almost makes me miss Michigan, almost.

It is beautiful after an ice storm, but this was just really heavy frost. I would miss the seasons and I love this part of winter, but I am about ready for spring. :-D

a beautiful shot that can make us forget about the cold for a while!

I'm one of those hundreds of thousands with no power. Got a generator going, and we heat with a wood stove, so at least can do a few things around the house.

A little over two feet for us, lots of trees down, lost one of my nicest spruce trees, lying flat on the ground. Heavy wet snow to start, weighted everything down, snapped power lines, limbs, etc. Lost power around 8:30 Friday night, no sign of power crews around yet.

The fellow that plows my driveway is in Beth Israel, a tree fell on him!

Glad you're okay.

stay safe--play games and eat junk food and hopefully the power will be back on soon and the road plowing guy is OK
still better than a hurricane I think

if misery loves company--it is supposed to start here tomorrow with a foot of snow and 40 mph winds
we really need rain in the spring instead of all this

Thanx for the reply plessner. We definately had a corker of a storm. Tons of snow and high winds but now that it's over it's quite beautiful out there. Hope you fare well and stay safe and warm. :D

thanks it has been snowing since midnight and the wind is supposed to pick up later---I sure am glad we don't have cows anymore to have to go out and feed!

I bought a Bower 8mm fish eye from B&H last year for $220. I like it a lot. It definitely is a fun lens but it also can add effects to a shot. Great for scenery, inside buildings anywhere my 10-22mm won't work. Totally manual lens which is not an issue. The fish eye effect doesn't have to distract if the photo is taken right.

Gerrpet, I have to agree with you, when used in moderation it can be a great tool in the bag. And may I add that your B&W example is a wonderful shot, I would hang that one on my wall for sure.

Thanks 33RIVERS. I'm in the process of getting a print and hanging on my wall.

my lens is a bower also--I am wondering if you have noticed something I noticed with mine--unfortunately too late. On the inside of the lens cap are the words lens cap in raised letters. The letters have left a small scratch in the lens. That did not make me happy. It shows up on photos where the subject is dark in that spot and I can usually get rid of it, but still that shouldn't have happened. So now I keep a tissue under the lens cap for a little padding so it won't happen again. I had the lens for about 6 months when I noticed what had happened and maybe should have complained--but didn't.

I noticed the raised lettering also but I didn't think it could touch the lens. If you take the cap off and put the lens on a flat surface like a table and look at the clearance between the front element and table it has to be at least 1/8" then there's another 1/8" when the cap is clipped on the lens hood. The raised lettering is around 1/32". I just checked. If the cap was not lined up with the hood the closest the lens comes to the raised lettering would be about 3/32", that should be enough clearance. Maybe there was some foreign object it the cap that caused the scratch. Could be your cap is different then mine, anyway I'll keep that in mind on my lens.

it was after a trip I noticed the scratch and I kind of think something heavy got set on top of it in my camera bag and pushed to cap down onto the lens as I was maybe overpacking my bag--live and learn

Awesome shots, J! Here is one of mine ~

Pg 22. Awesome shot mgstrawn. I'd love to take a stroll down that country road!

Thank you, Irene! It was taken in early November in the North GA mountains, about 3 hours from my home.

Now I am wishing I had paid more attention in geography class---I didn't know you had mountains!

very beautiful--you make me miss my horse days

Thanks plessner...me too...I miss the days I use to go riding from 6:00 in the morning till 12 noon and then go out again that evening. People use to tell me that they saw my horse in the pasture praying for rain...not that it would have stopped me ;-)

ah yes the good old days. My daughter and I rode probably at least 4 hours a day--some days more. She did the horse show circuit, one horse for pleasure events and a snappy little one for speed events, and 2 just for fun. I just rode them all to keep them in shape. After a rain we would ride in the water in the hiway ditch and pretend we were on a beach somewhere--well a couple weeks ago we were on a cruise to the Bahamas and planned to finially ride horse on the beach. At the last minute our itinerary got changed and we didn't get to go to that island. I am still disapointed--will just have to try again sometime.
Keep them beautiful shots coming
