I have an Intel 2600K with 8GB of DDR3 RAM. I use my computer for everything and never use more than about 2GB - 3GB at any given time and yes I am multitasking. I loaded every program I had all at the same time and still was just under 4GB. 4GB should serve you fine but since RAM is dirt cheap get 8GB. Going to 16GB is a waste of time and money unless you have a specific need like you have a server with multiple users. The average user does not use as much RAM as they believe they do. I have a Western Digital Black 500GB hard drive and have plenty of room but I also do not store junk. Now with Photoshop the faster the video card the better as Photoshop used the GPU on the video card and you do see the difference in photo manipulation performance.

I am speaking from experience. I installed 16GB and it was like having a back yard the size of walmart. Other than a RAM drive I could not even come close to using this memory so it just sat there unused. Since the computer does not need this extra RAM there is ZERO benefit.

this is what I was thinking. If a Sandisk compact flash memory was bad it is NOT going to be repaired. Memory either works or it doesn't. Most likely returns. Micro Center in Detroit sells the refurb compact flash only. The price is about 33% less than internet price. I might of tried it if I could trust it.

Got to watch buying memory off the internet. There are a lot of counterfeit memory being sold and some are very hard to spot.

Yes, Amazon is cheaper but I wanted it today, not a week from today.
Guess there is a price to pay for being impatient! LOL

I just decided not to take a chance on REFURBISHED memory and bought a Sandisk Ultra 16GB. $49.99 on sale @ Micro Center.

Refurbished Sandisk is the only compact flash the Detroit Micro Center store carries anymore.. They used to have retail packs but these are sold in small plastic bags. No one else in the Detroit area has compact flash anymore. Not even the few photo shops so it is either refurbished or I shop the web.

My exact questions ....... It is not like your going to fix defective memory. My concern is that an 8GB may only really be 7.5 thus was returned. Micro Center told me they are thoroughly tested. Who knows? Maybe a great deal but then I may be buying grief.

I went to Micro Center today to buy another compact flash memory for my Nikon D200 only to find out that all the compact flash they have is refurbished. Anyone ever heard of or bought refurbished memory? The brand is Sandisk and it looks like retail memory except the back label reads refurbished. If there is nothing to be afraid of it is cheaper!

Thanks

I use a Nikon 28-105 on my D200. At 28mm I can easily do room or group shots.

Here is an article on the Camera vs Human Eye

There is not really much you can do. Even if you are legitimately wronged, do you have thousands of dollars to defend a copyright violation? People know this and count on it. Would you spend $50,000 in an attempt to collect $5000? That is just reality. This is why a corporation will pay off on a law suit even when they have done nothing wrong. It is cheaper to pay and stop everything than to continue the fight. Happens every day. Now there are instances where a stolen photo has netted large amounts of money for the thief and then it may be worth the effort to try and get a piece of the pie but this is very rare. Bottom line is DO NOT post anything on the web you do not wish to be possibly stolen and used.

I just read the ripoff report submitted by db, and I must say I experienced some of what was in that report. My exception was when they made their follow-up call trying to sell me expensive accesories they said my camera would not work without I refused, so my cost stayed low and I payed $200 less than the next lowest price I could find, but is still doubtful I will go back to them.

Selling you something cheap then calling you back with a list of excuses trying to load up your credit card with items which are usually severely over priced and probably not needed seems to be getting more and more prevalent these days, especially as the economy declines.

I have dealt only with B&H. They are as honest as they come. Never had an issue and since I am in Michigan the delivery is always 3 days. Had to return an item once and that was quick and painless. I also hear Adorama is good. I bought a Nikon lens hood from them only because B&H did not have the hood in stock. Got a terrific price and received what I paid for in a few days. Like others have said, stick to the people you know are not going to rip you off and do as they promise.

That is a very good question! I also think the Nikons seem to take better photos. The only reason I don't buy Nikon (yet), and I hope no-one takes offense on this comment, is that I read on an animal rescue causes blog that Nikon supports bull dog fighting... How true that is I'm not sure yet, but I'm trying to find out. However, it doesn't change the fact that I also think their DSLRs take better photos. I wonder if anyone has an answer to that. :)

I seriously doubt Nikon supports Bull Dog Fighting. That would be Corporate Suicide getting associated with such a horrible issue.

Anyone know how many shots the Nikon D200 is rated for? I just bought a D200 body + extra generic battery from the original owner in the original box in almost mint condition for $359. Has 7,117 shots and was purchased March 2009 when Best Buy was unloading them for $650. Only the camera and charger were used. Everything else is still in the factory wrap. I was wondering if this was a good deal. Camera works fine. Only signs of use is minor normal wear on the rubber grips. I do not know what a D200 is actually worth today but, even though newer cameras do better in low light, the forums still rate it as a great camera.
