Weather here has been a bit uncooperative lately. Either very humid, and therefore very hazy, or just plain cloudy and stormy whenever I’ve had a chance to get out. Bought a Canon T6 last fall. Though it would be a decent camera, but so far have been a bit disappointed. Have been trying to get out just in the neighborhood and shooting a lot of the same things using different settings and lenses to see if I can figure out why, and what I may be able to do to get better results.

We have lot of flowering trees this time of year. I went over to a nearby park to get some photos of a blooming Poinsienna tree and this mockingbird obviously had a nest in the tree. Never did see it, and wouldn’t have bothered it, but this little bird thought it was a lot bigger than it is…she really didn’t want me around.

I prefer to do landscape, but living on a small flat island, don’t get much of a chance for that except when we go on holiday. Recently, have given macro photography a go because we do get at least some flowers pretty much year round. Sunsets in the tropics are always abundant, but work still comes first…

These were shot with the kit 18-55 f3.5-5.6 IS, Canon 55-200 f4.5-5.6 USM or a 50 f1.24 prime. Just got the prime a few weeks ago, and have really been pleased with in in comparison to the other lens results.

Other lenses I have are an older Sigma 100-300 Ff4.5-6.7 and a recently purchased Tamron 150-600 g2 that only has a couple dozen clicks on it, but anxious to get it out a bit more.

I have a reasonably good comprehension of the ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed relationship. Tend to shoot at 100 iso if I can, and rarely above 400, mostly because I have a really old Canon DSLR that didn’t take very good photos above that, and old habits die hard.

Have tired a few shots with the T6 at 1600, and not particularly impressed with the results. But again, still trying to figure things out. Also not all that please with the autofocus

There’s been a little bit of post on these, but not much. Mostly to take out the saturation on the flowers. In general, I don’t find these to be particularly sharp. And I don’t have enough experience with higher end gear to know if it’s the camera, the lenses, me, or a combination of all.

Would be much appreciated for those of you with much more experience on this to get some feedback on what you think I could change to improve quality, or if I’m just being too critical, or is the gear I’ve listed just not going to get much better results than this.

Thanks in advance for any comments and suggestions

First post, so bear with me. Decided to take a trip to New England last fall, hoping to get color. Turned out it was about perfect except a fair bit of fog and overcast several days. Shot years ago with a Canon EOS 300D. Had been stored and just got it back. Still works! But wanted to get something better so bought a Canon T6. Have a fair amount of older EF lenses, so wanted to stay with Canon. Took along an old Tamron 100-300 that I've had, but shot mostly with the kit 18-55. I tend to shoot AV almost all the time, and generally ISO 100 unless it's really bad on light. -1/3 to -2/3 compensation just because of personal preference.

First trip with the camera, and didn't realize until relatively recently (and long after the trip) I would have served myself better to be shooting RAW....so these all started life as jpeg's. Also all shot handheld.

These are all straight off the memory card with no post except the broad high one from Cadillac Mt (?) with the fog. Just tried my hand at sharpening the contrast in the cloud layers.

At first, was a bit disappointed in some of the results, but have chalked some of it up to feeling out a new camera.

Would welcome any criticism, comments and suggestions on anything and everything, I'm very new to PP, so any suggestions on that would be especially appreciated.

Thanks in advance for looking...
