if you in the financial position that the cost of film and developing are not a problem fine
but there are some of us who can not afford this. digital cameras are a blessing freeing us of that burden
we can take as many pictures we desire get good pictures without the cost of film. should you travel to three
diffrent places an take a total of three hundred pictures in each location total nine hundred pictures
go on your computer check the cost of a roll of kodack film 36 exp to buy and develop 25 rolls for 900 pictures
need i say more[/quote

There’s actually a lot of expense in digital once you add in the cost of software, printers and ink, expired drives and expired software for older drives etc. Then change operating systems cause one pisses you off too much.
OK, fine, but I consider a digital photo the END & I do not normally make prints..... email will take four jpgs, if someone wants more, I snail mail a usb drive. Now and then I fall into the "large format" trap and yearn for my 4x5, but have woken up before I do something stupid...

I feed a hugh (4x5 foot TV screen) from my computer, I sit across the room, about 8 ft away, and the photos are fine and the text easy to read..... with a remote, I switch the TV screen from TV to computer. With the computer keyboard on my lap............. Works like a charm.. Ed

A lot of discussion about how much flash is enuff. check the two group photos I sent. The second one was accidental and the flash did not go off. My answer to the question is :"I let the camera worry about that", which worked. Ed

you dont want to burn a hole in the photo, you just want to fill in the deep shadows

I held the shutter down a bit too long and got this one w/o the flash.... I always(when I remember) fire the flash outdoors...

I dont get to close so that the flash does not dominate the exposure, then let the camera worry about the exposure.
the flash filled in this one nicely...

The first thing I do when I buy an advanced technology camera is to order David Busch's book about it. Some of the settings suggested by David Busch reflect his personal preferences and might not be yours. The books will help you become familiar with the camera and its thousands of combinations of settings. He presents everything in a very logical and easy to understand format.

With 20-20 hindsight I'll raise you one. I shoulda bought one of his books before I made the "buy" decision for any camera in the past.

My cel phone has the capabilities of doing everything but walking my dog, unfortunately as more capabilities are added, it has become more and more difficult to use to the point where IN FACT I have begun to phase it out in favor of email.. When ordering on line, I tell vendors that I don't have a working telephone, escentially true....

There are several good 3rd party books/manuals that tell you how to get the most out of your camera. The factory manuals purpose is to show you how the camera and its features function, not to teach photography.

yeh, David Busch's manual looks promissing, going to download it on Nook. Thanks (someone) for that. Ed

doesn't have anything to do with teaching photography, I know what I want the camera to do, just sometimes it is difficult to figure out how to tell the camera to do it... In most cases the capabilities of the camera is what I bought the damn thing for so I know what it can or cannot do, just need better instruction in how to "drive" it. I tried to set the shutter to what used to be called "bulb" and buried my head in the manuel & ten minutes later still could not figure out how to do it...
